2024 Glenbard South (Ill.) receiver Cam Williams‍ has known for weeks where he was going to go to college.

That place will be Notre Dame as the four-star prospect committed to the Fighting Irish on Wednesday night and joins the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class in 2024.

“I’ll be honest, I knew when I was at Irish Invasion for the whole day,” Williams told ISD earlier this week. “I felt I rocked with this place too hard. I decided I wasn’t going to waste any time going anywhere else because it felt like home.”

Williams got a taste of Notre Dame during the fall, but a visit during the spring and then his return to camp allowed him to get to know the staff more, which was a significant part in his decision.

“It meant a ton,” Williams said of his relationships with the coaching staff. “I spent a whole day with (Chansi) Stuckey and a lot of time with (Tommy) Rees. I talked to Coach (Marcus) Freeman. With Stuckey, I felt it just clicked. It all just clicked and felt right.”

Stuckey coached Williams hard during Irish Invasion and Williams embraced it. However, it was the time off the field that sold the 6-foot-2, 175-pounder on Stuckey.

“When I was with him that whole day, I just got a sense of him,” explained Williams. “I remember I enjoyed being around him as he enjoyed being around me. You kind of just know with those things sometimes and that was one of those times. Off the field, me and him are great.”

Notre Dame’s education also played a major factor for Williams as he was always looking to get a top degree from the day his recruitment started.

“I wanted to go to a school and get a great education like a lot of people,” stated Williams. “I always knew Notre Dame was a good school, but the week after Irish Invasion, I talked to so many alumni and people tied to the school and I saw how significant and important that degree was and what I could do coming from a place like Notre Dame. How could you say no at that point.”

Fellow 2024 commits CJ Carr and Jack Larsen were also at the Irish Invasion and Williams had a feeling all three would be committing soon, but admits it’s crazy the trio entered the month uncommitted and now are in the same class less than four weeks later.

“It’s is super wild,” laughed Williams. “I’m not going to lie. We were asking each other where we were going to go. We all just looked at each other like ‘Yeah.’”

As for what’s next, Williams is looking forward to joining Carr on the recruiting trail.

“I have to,” said Williams. “That’s what you gotta do. Seeing it from CJ, he’s doing a great job. I’d love to be surrounded by much more talent just like me at any position. If it’s a receiver or corner, they can make me better and I can make them better. It’s just good to have more stars around you in general.”
