As Notre Dame continues its pursuit of a quarterback in the Class of 2023, Kenny Minchey‍ is a name that Irish fans may end up becoming quite familiar with.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder from Tennessee has been committed to Pittsburgh since April, but continues to receive serious interest from some of the biggest programs in the country.

The Pope John Paul II High School standout remains solidly committed to the Panthers, but Riley Howard III, CEO of Elite 3 Sports Training, isn’t surprised Minchey is finding himself in such high demand.

“I just think he is the same kid everywhere he goes and everything that he does,” Howard III says of Minchey, who recently had a stellar showing at the prestigious Elite 11 Finals. “He's never going to be too high. He's never going to be too low. He's just steady and it showed.

“I think his parents have done a great job. His mom and dad have done a great job of preparing him mentally for the big stage and putting him in this position.”

Howard III says he’s been training with Minchey since the quarterback was a middle-schooler.

“I've challenged him and helped him grow mentally, just preparing him, not just physically, but mentally as well,” says Howard III. “That's one of the things that kind of separates him from a lot of the guys. He's mentally prepared and he knows how to stay even-keeled, not overthinking events and big stages. He just goes and does what Kenny does us.”

Physically, Howard III says Minchey possesses a strong and accurate arm along with the ability to throw the deep ball very well.

“He puts in the time to develop since he's been younger,” says Howard III, who notes Minchey also works with the respected QB Country group. “We just try to find small things throughout his career.

“Like, 'Hey look, he didn't do this well this season, so let's focus on making these throws a little bit better, whether it's downfield or intermediate route.' Or whatever it is. He's just always trying to redefine himself and redefine his game.”

While Minchey is a great passer, Howard III believes he’s underrated as an athlete as well.

“He's sneaky fast,” says Howard III. “He's more athletic than he gets credit for.”

Howard III notes Minchey’s SPARQ score – a system designed to measure athleticism – jumped from the low-80s to over 100 in a year.

“That's just his commitment and time for speed development, his agility and all those different types of things,” says Howard III. “Kenny is doing something to prepare his game, to add tools to his game, at minimum six days a week.”

That kind of work ethic is likely to leave Minchey with even more opportunities than he’s already earned.
