The defensive end talent in 2027 is through the roof, as it’s quickly becoming one of the deepest edge classes in recent memory.
One of the top edge rushers in the country is 2027 Downingtown East (Pa.) star Abraham Sesay. The 6-foot-5, 200-pounder has blown up this fall and the Fighting Irish offered him on November 4th.
The four-star prospect wasted little time getting to South Bend as Sesay was on campus for the Syracuse game, which was one of the wildest games inside Notre Dame Stadium’s rich history.
Notre Dame’s staff made the most of the opportunity to host one of the nation’s premier edge defenders, and Sesay left campus with a strong first impression.
“I thought it was great,” Sesay told ISD. “It was a great place, an amazing culture. I really learned a lot and it's somewhere that's very special. They have a very high education and great football, so it was an amazing first impression.”
During the visit, Sesay spent significant time with Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa, who recently returned to his alma mater as Notre Dame’s Director of Recruiting Advancement.
The former Irish defensive lineman provided Sesay with a firsthand perspective on the program, having lived it himself.
“It was definitely a blessing having Myron by my side,” stated Sesay. “He's a great person, all blessings to him. It was really great having another person who played football, not only there, but also played my position. It really just gave me more insight about how Notre Dame is and what they are about, especially on the defensive side of the ball.”
Sesay has also quickly built a rapport with defensive line coach Al Washington, and the two connected throughout the weekend.
“It was great talking to him that whole weekend while I was up there,” explained Sesay. “We communicate back and forth each week, and I'm just excited to keep that building.”
Washington’s personality stood out to Sesay, particularly his energy and approach to coaching.
“Really, just his eagerness and his tenacity,” Sesay said when asked about Washington’s personality. “He's always really wanting to get after it and I really respect that. I love that about a coach.”
The Syracuse game itself was a bit unconventional as it escalated quickly, but Sesay was able to get a clear look at Notre Dame’s defensive front and how he might fit into the scheme.
“ I definitely fit – wherever Coach needs me to play, I can play,” Sesay stated. “But really just dominating that pass and stopping the run, which I saw a lot of players do well while I was watching. I really see myself doing that as well.”
Sesay currently holds 20 offers and is beginning to map out his upcoming visits as he moves deeper into the recruiting process.
“I haven't finalized anything yet, but one visit is planned to Duke in January, that's set,” said Sesay. “I have a couple of other visits I'm looking at and everything's to be determined. We'll see once we get closer to those dates.”
The focus of these visits is to experience new places and begin narrowing down where he wants to take official visits.
“I'm still very open. I'm still keeping an open mind every time I step on every campus,” Sesay explained. “I’m really seeing what every school has to offer. I definitely have some criteria that I like to try to see in a school when making a decision.”
And yes, Academics will play a significant role in Sesay’s decision.
“I love academics,” said Sesay. “Football is not forever, so just being able to go to a school that has a great academic program, as well as getting developed, is very important to me.”
