2023 Wisconsin OL Commit Chris Terek Previews Notre Dame Visit

Chris Terek went on an offer tear back in May, when the 2023 Illinois offensive lineman landed scholarships from Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Iowa State, Vanderbilt, Boston College and others.

Notre Dame didn’t offer at the time, but they did make contact before filling its quota at the position.

“When I first started blowing up, they started recruiting me and then right after they started talking to me, they filled up,” Terek told ISD this week.

But things change in recruiting and when Elijah Paige backed off his commitment to the Irish last month, a spot re-opened.

“Once they had this decommitment, they called and said, I'm the guy they want,” the Glenbard West High School standout explained.

The Irish also invited him to visit for Saturday’s game against Stanford. But, in the interim, Terek made a commitment to Wisconsin, complicating things.

Still, the 6-foot-6, 310-pounder decided it was too good of an opportunity to pass up.

“It's a crazy opportunity,” he said. “I've never had a chance to really get down to Notre Dame and see it for myself. I just want to go check it out, talk with the coaches, see what they have to offer.

“Notre Dame's got one of the richest traditions in college football. They produce a lot of offensive linemen too. They're great with o-linemen and obviously it's a top-notch degree, one of the best colleges in the country.”

Terek has been to Notre Dame as a fan, but is looking forward to returning as a recruit.

“I've been to one Notre Dame game a few years ago and it was nuts,” he said. “I just really want to talk with the coaches, check everything out and just see if that's possibly a place I want to be.”

Terek informed the Badger staff of his plans.

“They know,” he said. “I just told them, 'I'm going to check it out, yada yada yada.' I'm still 100 percent committed to Wisconsin. I just haven't gotten a chance to check out Notre Dame.

They were understanding, yeah. They said, 'Go do you.' It's kind of a weird situation there right now.

Wisconsin offensive line coach Bob Bostad is a major reason Terek committed to the Badgers in the first place and he’s remained on staff in the wake of head coach Paul Chryst’s dismissal.

“The o-line coach is still there and Wisconsin is close to home and they have a rich o-line tradition too,” he said. “My o-line coach played there. Coach Bostad, he's a great coach. I really felt like I clicked with him and their program was just something I wanted to be a part of compared to all the other schools that I visited.

“I just didn't get a chance to check out Notre Dame, so I'm just going to go check it out.”
