It may not have seemed simple – or been simple throughout – but in the end, the decision was a simple one for Jeremiyah Love‍.

The 2023 St. Louis running back just announced his commitment to Notre Dame; choosing the Irish over offers from schools like Texas A&M, Oregon, Michigan, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Penn State, USC, Stanford and Vanderbilt among several others.

“ND is the best combination of academics, football and it’s closer to home,” said Love, who discussed his decision with ISD prior to making it public.

“Out of all the schools I’ve been to, ND has the best and biggest fan base in the country. They like me already and I love the love I feel when I’m there.”

Love took multiple visits to South Bend over the past year, including an official visit in June and an unofficial visit last month. He returned to campus this weekend to announce his decision prior to Saturday night’s game against Stanford.

Notre Dame running backs coach Deland McCullough played a huge role in Love’s recruitment, building a personal relationship while also diving in deep to the X’s and O’s and showing Love how he could succeed in the Irish’s offense.

“Me and Coach McCullough click,” Love said. “We speak the same football language. I understand how he wants me to run the ball and I love how they plan on using me.

“They want to use me all over the place; receiver, running back, special teams.”

Love gives the Irish 23 verbal commitments in the Class of 2023 and three running backs, joining Jayden Limar‍ and Dylan Edwards‍, although all three can do different things with Edwards more of an athlete.

The Irish were in a strong position as soon as they extended an offer back in February. By the time he arrived for his official visit in June, they had solidified frontrunner status and a summertime commitment was on the table.

But he wasn’t quite finished and took some additional visits, including a second trip to College Station as Texas A&M emerged as the biggest threat to Notre Dame.

Still, getting his mother to South Bend seemed to be the only thing standing between himself and a commitment to the Irish. But with August blacked out as a dead period, that would have to wait until the Irish’s home opener in September. And since he was waiting that long, it only made sense to give the Aggies one last look a week later.

But none of it changed Love’s mind or the minds of his parents.

“Notre Dame is a global brand,” Love’s father Jason told ISD. “They’re damn near America’s Team.

“Academically, out of 300,000 applicants, only 12 percent or less even get the opportunity to go to the school first of all. That’s the draw.”

Mr. Love notes that Notre Dame doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles as some of the other programs, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

“All of that builds character,” he said. “If you can make it to Notre Dame, you can make it anywhere. They’re going to challenge you intellectually and they’re going to challenge you physically. You get the best of both worlds there.”

Love has already make the transition from recruit to recruiter and he’ll be working on his Christian Brothers College teammate, 2024 wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan‍, and 2024 St. Louis wide receiver Ryan Wingo‍, who are both in South Bend with him this weekend.

“I would love to have my bros come play with me and I will do my best to recruit them to join me at ND.”
