Andrean High School (Ind.) and Drayk Bowen won state a year ago, but the 59ers aren’t satisfied and the 2023 Notre Dame commit wasn’t about to lose his last game on his home field.
On Friday night, Bowen put his team on his back as he ran 35 times for 358 yards and five touchdowns while adding double-digit tackles as Andrean beat Bishop Luers 48-29 on a frozen field that played more like an ice rink than anything remotely close to a football field.
It was a mixture of highlight runs and death by a thousand cuts as temperatures under 20 degrees prevented either team from getting too much going in the air.
If the 6-foot-2, 233-pounder wasn’t Mr. Football in the state of Indiana before the game, Bowen is certainly going home with hardware now as he’s now rushed for 1,689 yards and 26 touchdowns to go with over 130 tackles on defense on the year.
Andrean will face Evansville Mater Dei next weekend in Indy for State. It’s a rematch of last year’s State Final that saw Andrean win 21-9.
And yes, Bowen will be back at Notre Dame on Saturday as the Irish take on Boston College.
