Belief may be the best to describe the match between Kenny Minchey‍ and Notre Dame.

The 2023 Tennessee quarterback just announced his commitment to the Marcus Freeman, Tommy Rees and the Irish.

“I felt like Coach Rees believes in me and my abilities and I felt like Coach Freeman is going to be carrying on the tradition at Notre Dame,” Minchey told Irish Sports Daily before announcing his decision publicly.

“I feel like he loves his players and actually cares for them and wants the best for them. Also, the players who are going to be around me. They're only going to make me better.”

Minchey took an official visit to South Bend this past weekend and that proved decisive for the one-time Pitt commit.

“I loved the visit for sure,” the Pope John Paul II star said. “I'd say the main part of it was being able to sit down with Coach Freeman because we had never met. I met Coach Rees before and we've talked, we've been communicating. Me and Coach Freeman have also been on the phone recently.

“But it was great to actually be able to sit down with him and hear what he had to say about me and the player that he thinks that I can be and just be able to sit down with him and my family.”

Minchey noted he feels comfortable under Rees’ guidance.

“Coach Rees used to play quarterback,” the 6-foot-2, 205-pounder said. “He knows how the position's played. I feel like he has a good grasp on coaching. I've talked to players on their roster about Coach Rees and the kind of coach that they think he is. They feel like he's more than capable and they feel like he's good at developing and they feel like he's good at coaching and wants the best out of his players.

“I feel like they're going to be able to play to their strengths offensively and I feel like I'll be able to be a piece in their offense.”

It’s been a long process for Minchey and one he’s enjoyed, but one he’s also glad is finished.

“I've been watching this stuff since I was younger and to actually go through it, it's definitely exciting. I know not a lot of kids get to go through this kind of stuff. It's definitely cool to be able to go through this. I'm glad it's over really with Signing Day coming up soon. Being able to get that out of the way and have a home like you said.”
