2024 ATH Tae Johnson Gets Closer Look At Notre Dame

Brauntae Johnson‍ was back at Notre Dame yet again this past Saturday for the Irish’s Junior Day.

“It was a good time for sure for me and my mom,” the 2024 Indiana athlete told Irish Sports Daily afterward.

“We just really learn more about it every time we go down there.”

Johnson has made several trips up from Fort Wayne over the past couple years for camps, visits and games.

On Saturday, he had an opportunity to spend more time around safeties coach Chris O’Leary and receivers coach Chansi Stuckey.

“They showed me little things about the defense at safety,” Johnson said. “It wasn’t really anything too hard. They make it simple. I do think I could thrive in what he showed me they do with their safeties.

“Then, Coach Stuck showed me some stuff they do with their receivers. It was really just getting deeper into the program.

“I really feel good about that for sure. He was showing me how they can get their receivers quick touches, get them the ball in space. Everything they showed me, I feel like I could thrive in it.”

The 6-foot-3, 170-pounder’s recruitment kicked off with several offers as a receiver, although it seems the Irish saw him more as a defensive player than a wideout initially. It now appears Johnson would have great input into that decision should he choose Notre Dame.

“It’s really whatever I want to do,” he said. “They let it be known it’s really whatever I want to do, whichever one I think would fit me best.”

Johnson isn’t ready to say where he believes he’d fit best, but did say, “After Saturday, it definitely gave me some direction of which one I want to do.”

He should be back in South Bend within the next couple months.

“They were saying the next step for me is to try to get back for spring ball,” he said. “It’s going to be my senior, so getting back for spring ball and then getting closer and closer to a decision. I know they want me back down there for spring ball.”

Johnson’s offer sheet includes schools like Indiana, Purdue, Michigan State, Missouri, Penn State, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Washington among others.

He’s scheduled to visit Tennessee later this month, but has nothing else locked in.

Johnson is planning to have a final decision either this summer or fall.
