2025 WR Daylan McCutcheon Breaks Down Notre Dame Visit
Notre Dame took advantage of Daylan McCutcheon making a trip to the Midwest by getting the 2025 Texas wide receiver on campus.
Then, the Irish took full advantage of that opportunity by opening the Lovejoy High School star’s eyes during the visit.
“Notre Dame, it’s just different to be honest,” McCutcheon said after the visit. “I came in just with the mindset that it’s a big school and obviously they’re going to have a lot of talent.
“But…while I was there the coaches were telling me how it is outside of football and it will help me in the long run. Coach (Marcus) Freeman told me it’s all about working hard and putting up results. You don’t have to rush the results because if you do you won’t get anywhere.”
That really hit home with the 6-foot, 175-pounder, who has offers from the Irish, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Baylor, Miami, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Nebraska, South Carolina, Penn State and Oregon among many others.
“It’s really outside of football and what they can help provide where they can help me with my degree,” he said. “Being able to start companies if I’m interested in Business and help me in Engineering, which I’m also interested in. It helps me develop a family and create connections with others at Notre Dame.”
Notre Dame receivers coach Chansi Stuckey made a major impression as well.
“What really caught my attention was the coaching style by Coach Stuckey,” McCutcheon said. “The way he was explaining to me about the receivers about how they should practice and their work ethic and how they should perform in games. It really just sparked my interest. When he would show my film and compare it to what he teaches, it really just blew me away.”
Meeting with Freeman certainly stood out too.
“He’s just like another person I can see as my dad, and just someone who can take care of me,” McCutcheon said. “What he says, I truly believe. He talks outside of football when we were in the meeting room. He was just telling me Notre Dame is a good place for you even outside of football because obviously football won’t last forever and you need to think outside of it. “
Still, McCutcheon isn’t quite ready to name any favorites.
“I’m keeping an open mind,” he said. “I don’t have a leader right now.”
McCutcheon is going to try returning to South Bend for a game this fall. He’s planning to see Purdue while he’s in the Midwest and South Carolina next week.
