Carter Nelson‍ enjoyed his first trip to South Bend for last fall’s Notre Dame-Boston College game, but the 2024 Nebraska tight end is looking forward to returning for his official visit next month.

“It's going to help a lot because I didn't really get to see anything while I was there, get to sit down with coaches at all,” he says.

“This is going to be a lot more important than the unofficial.”

The Ainsworth High School standout will be back at Notre Dame the second weekend of June.

In the interim, the 6-foot-5, 210-pounder has been hearing plenty from the Irish, especially offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Gerad Parker and even head coach Marcus Freeman.

“Since the unofficial, they have come out multiple times,” Nelson explains. “Coach Parker was even out here (recently). They've been out quite a bit.

“It definitely shows how committed they are for sure, especially when Freeman came out.”

The message from Parker has been a simple one.

“Just that he's excited for the official visit here in a couple of weeks,” Nelson says.

Nelson has a couple other officials locked in as well.

“Georgia's going to be the first week in June and Nebraska's going to be the last,” he says.

The Ainsworth, Neb., could schedule some others, but hasn’t locked any in yet.

Nelson has made it clear from the start that he would keep his commitments to his high school squads throughh the process and has done just that with football, basketball and track.

He’s hoping to have a final decision this summer, but hasn’t completely turned his focus to recruiting just yet.
