Coach | 2025 S Ethan Long "One Of Hardest Workers I've Met"
Ethan Long has seen some tremendous opportunities come his way this spring.
And, according to his coach, the 2025 Connecticut safety has earned every single one of them.
“He's one of the hardest workers I've met,” Brunswick School head coach Wayne McGillicuddy says. “I've been around this long enough where we've been lucky enough, we have a receiver who’s at Michigan. We have a tackle who’s at Ohio State this year.”
Brunswick also has other current players with Power Five offers, including 2024 lineman Jadon Lafontant and 2025 offensive lineman Matty Augustine, who just landed an offer from the Irish earlier this month.
“Ethan works his absolute tail off in the weight room, in the classroom, doesn't matter,” McGillicuddy continues. “He's usually always the first one in last one to leave, especially in the weight room and in the locker room.”
Long typically works out twice a day.
“We lift four days a week as a team,” his coach says. “He'll end up leaving our workout and going to do extra speed work and accessory lifts. He's a weight room guy.”
It’s the same thing in the classroom, according to McGillicuddy.
“That's why he has a 93-94 GPA overall between his three years of high school so far,” his coach says. “He works with everything he does and he does not like to fail, so he just tries to make sure he has that chip on his shoulder and continue to prove everyone wrong.”
So, it’s been especially satisfying for Long and McGillicuddy to see that hard work pay off.
Long added an offer from Notre Dame at the end of May after picking up offers from Michigan, Yale, Michigan State, Maryland, Penn State, Morgan State and UConn earlier in the month. He added Duke, Boston College and Buffalo in April.
“I know it's tough to see at times on film, but he's extremely long,” says McGillicuddy. “It's funny, because his last name is Long, but he's all of 6-2, about 188 to 195. He has a 75.5-inch wingspan, so he's just very long.
“He has good size legs for DB. But then like when you watch him work out, he's just fluid in everything that he does, and he checks a lot of boxes for a lot of coaches.”
Long was extremely honored and grateful to receive the offer from Notre Dame, especially since his cousin, Austin Webster, served as a captain for the Irish back in 2017.
“The Notre Dame connection definitely runs deep for him and his family,” says McGillicuddy. “I know that he was definitely thrilled and fired up to have that offer come in today. I know he'll be down this summer, to go work out with Coach (Al) Golden and Coach (Chris) O'Leary again. So, he's thrilled about that.”
Golden got to check out Long in person during the Connecticut Prep School Showcase last month.
“It was great,” McGillicuddy says. “Coach Golden was fired up. He talked to me afterwards and they were very impressed with the way Ethan moved.
“His hard work's paying off, which is phenomenal.”
