It’s quite obvious Chris Burgess‍ is seriously interested in Notre Dame, which is why the 2025 Chicago defensive end has already been to South Bend three times this year.

Burgess will make it four times this year, when he returns for the Irish’s BBQ event on July 30th.

“I'll be out there,” the Simeon High School standout says.

“I like the feel of the place and it's close to home, so that's a big factor for me.”

Notre Dame defensive line coach Al Washington has also made a very strong impression on Burgess, whose offer sheet includes the Irish along with schools like Wisconsin, Nebraska, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Miami, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, Washington and Oregon among others.

“I love him as a coach,” Burgess says of Washington.

“He's one of my favorite d-line coaches and I see myself fitting in there.”

Burgess had the chance to work directly with Washington during last month’s Irish Invasion.

“He is a hands-on coach,” says Burgess. “He'll help you if you're doing something bad or he'll help you if you're doing something wrong. He's a good person.”

Burgess hoping to build on that relationship with Washington and the other coaches and learn even more about Notre Dame during this upcoming visit.

He may also visit Wisconsin during the open period at the end of the month and already has an idea of where he’ll be headed this fall.

“I plan on coming to the Notre Dame-Ohio State game, then USC-Notre Dame,” he says.

“Then I'm going to the Michigan-Ohio State game and some Wisconsin games.”

Burgess also has a good idea of what will be most important to him when it comes time to make a final decision.

“The relationships I got with the coaches and how I feel in their program.”
