2024 Notre Dame CB Commit Karson Hobbs Ready For His Season, Irish Season

Karson Hobbs‍ has some well-defined personal goals heading into the season.

“Five picks, 15 pass breakups and 40 tackles,” the 2024 Notre Dame cornerback rattles off without thinking twice.

“I've been thinking about that for a while.”

Those stats would cement Hobbs’ name in the history books at Archbishop Moeller, historically one of the top programs in Ohio and the nation.

“I think they’d record-breaking numbers for Moeller,” says Moeller. “I think 15 would be the record here. I had 12 or 13 last year. I'm just trying to go down in history somehow.

“Obviously, it's much different than playing offense, but just trying to make my name remembered forever.”

But all of those stats are secondary to Hobbs’ primary goal.

“Obviously, I would say number one is winning the State Championship,” I think we start small and then build up. So I would say being GCL Champs, but obviously I think the end goal is winning that state ring.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder believes he and his teammates can accomplish that goal if they do what they need to do.

“I think just staying in touch and working hard in practice and then coming out and executing on game days,” he says. “Everybody says they want to win a state championship until it's time to put the work in to do it. I feel like the last two years, we put the work in, we just haven't got the results we want. It's unfortunate, but it happens in life.

“I feel like as my last season, I kind of have more control and more of a world of film than I did in past years when you had other good players. This year, we have a lot of talented young guys coming up, so I think it's just time for everybody to walk in and step up and do what they need to do so we can be successful.”

Late in the season, Hobbs will have the chance to play against a future teammate, when Moeller faces St. Edward, where Irish defensive commit Loghan Thomas has transferred.

“I texted him like, 'Bro, why you went there? And not here?'” Hobbs laughs. “But he had family that lived in Cleveland now, so it made sense.

“If we don't win it, they're going to win it and that would be crazy if they win three state championships back-to-back-to-back.”

Hobbs realizes what an addition Thomas is for St. Edward, but also notes his team isn’t going to back down.

“That just makes their d-line even scarier, but we've got good o-linemen too, so I guess when that time comes and that week comes, we're not ducking from nobody, so this is going to be a good game,” he says.

Of course, Hobbs also has one eye on his future beyond Moeller and as a lifelong Notre Dame fan, he’ll be taking advantage of his final year as a fan before getting his chance to suit up for the Irish.

“I'll be at every home game,” he says. “Every one.

“I just feel like I might as well get used to it. I'm going to be playing there for the next four years, so why not just go watch my future teammates ball out?”
