2025 OL Matty Augustine Talks Notre Dame, Timeline & More
GREENWICH, Conn. – It was a busy summer for Matty Augustine.
The 2025 Connecticut offensive lineman wrapped up a summer of visits with a trip to Notre Dame for the Irish’s Grill & Chill event.
Prior to that, he made stops at Michigan, Alabama, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Florida.
The Brunswick School standout has narrowed his list at all, but a few schools certainly caught his attention with Notre Dame being one.
Irish offensive line coach Joe Rudolph and head coach Marcus Freeman have remained in communication with the 6-foot-7, 295-pounder since.
“There's definitely been a lot of contact with the recruiting department, Coach Rudolph, Coach Freeman,” Augustine says. “There's been a lot of contact.
“They're just keeping in touch, seeing how preseason is going, seeing when we first play, seeing how the body feels. Just stuff like that.”
Augustine, who earned his Notre Dame offer after working out at the Irish’s Lineman’s Challenge back in June, appreciates the time the staff is taking to build bonds with him.
“Every time we call, my relationship with Coach Rudolph just gets stronger and stronger,” he says. “It's good just to feel a connection with the coach like that, especially at Notre Dame. It's pretty special.”
He’ll be back in South Bend for the fourth time this year when he returns for the Ohio State game later this month.
“I've never been out there for a game, so I can't wait to see what the atmosphere is like,” he says.
During his previous trip to South Bend, Augustine had the opportunity to meet 2025 Wisconsin offensive lineman Owen Strebig, another top Notre Dame target.
“He's a great guy,” Augustine says of Strebig. “I love him, good player. I watched his film, he's really good. He's also such a genuinely nice kid.”
Augustine says playing with somebody like Strebig would be “huge.”
“He's a great player, so building the connection now, hopefully playing together later,” says Augustine. “That's just huge because a coach wants kids who already have connections so you can gel together. Like everyone says, the offensive line is one, it's not five, so it's pretty big.”
He’d also love the opportunity to play with his friend, teammate – and current housemate – 2025 Brunswick safety Ethan Long.
“That'd be so special playing next to Ethan, coming from the same high school,” says Augustine. “He is living with me right now. He lives at my house. It'd be really special to play with a kid who I've grown so close to.”
Augustine visited Wisconsin this past weekend and plans to get to Florida for the Tennessee game in a couple weeks. He’ll wrap up his fall visit schedule in Ann Arbor in November for the Michigan-Ohio State game.
Augustine doesn’t have a defined timeline for a decision, but it won’t be anytime too soon.
“It's definitely not until after season. Probably springtime, but really no clue.”
