BREAKING | 2025 TE James Flanigan Commits To Notre Dame

James Flanigan‍ may have accelerated his decision in the end, but the 2025 Wisconsin tight end certainly didn’t rush the process.

And in the end, Flanigan decided Notre Dame was the spot for him as he just announced his commitment to the Irish.

The Green Bay native is the seventh verbal commitment for Notre Dame in the Class of 2025, joining quarterback Deuce Knight, running backs Justin Thurman and Daniel Anderson and defensive linemen Davion Dixon, Joseph Reiff and CJ May.

The son of former Irish standout linebacker Jim Flanigan was back in South Bend this weekend for Notre Dame’s big win over USC.

“It was awesome,” Flanigan told ISD afterward.

Meetings with head coach Marcus Freeman and offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Gerad Parker made one thing clear to Flanigan. Parker was a significant reason the Irish got this one done despite growing up with plenty of Notre Dame around him. 

“They really want me there,” he said. 

Flanigan chose Notre Dame over offers from Wisconsin, Stanford, Michigan and Penn State.

After a round of visits in the summer, he planned to visit each school again before making a decision. He visited Stanford and Michigan earlier in the fall, but following this weekend’s trip to South Bend, decided he’d seen enough to choose the Irish.

Multiple trips to campus over the past year have given Flanigan plenty of insight into his father’s alma mater and ultimately decided it was the best spot for him as well.

“It definitely means a lot because you grow up, you always hear about how he played there and went to school there,” Flanigan said.

“To be able to have that opportunity as well goes a long way.”

Notre Dame has a commitment from 2024 defensive lineman Bryce Young, the son of former Irish great Bryant Young, and is considered the leader for 2025 receiver Jerome Bettis Jr., the son of another Irish legend.
