2024 Notre Dame TE Commit Jack Larsen Ready For Next Chapter
Jack Larsen’s senior season at Charlotte Catholic High School may not have ended the way he would have liked, but the 2024 Notre Dame tight end commit wouldn’t trade it for the world.
“It was great,” the future Irish tight end said. “It was great to play one last season with all the guys I've grown up playing with. Obviously, we wish we kept winning games and making a run, but we played a really good team and the cards didn't shake our way.
“But it was a very fun year. It was our head coach's first year and it was super special having him. He was in the program before, but it was cool having him as the head guy and kind of growing with each other. He did a great job, so it was a ton of fun.”
The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder felt he made major improvements in his own game.
“Definitely some of my run after catch stuff was better,” he said. “I was just making contested catches for big plays, when we needed a big first down or stuff like that. I think those were good. I also think my leadership too, being a senior and figuring out which guys you need to push, encourage, what guys you need to tell, 'Come on, let's go.'
“I feel like that was one of the harder parts I think for myself and a couple other guys was gauging that. We had some problems early in the season with some guys not being fully bought into the program and stuff, but it was cool growing and getting everyone back on track. My leadership definitely grew a lot.”
Throughout the season, the North Carolina native had weekly calls with Irish tight ends coach and offensive coordinator Gerad Parker.
“Usually Wednesdays, seeing how I'm doing and who we were playing that week, the scouting report,” Larsen explained. “I would ask them how they're doing and how the game's looking for them any given week. I know they had stuff going on and we have team dinners on Wednesdays, so I was usually over at team dinner for the seniors.”
Now, Larsen turns his focus to Notre Dame, where he’ll head next month as an early enrollee.
“It's definitely coming up,” he said. “I'm pumped up. I'm excited.
“Just being around the guys, getting around some of the other commits, meeting the rest of the team, just getting on campus, starting some classes. I'm pumped out, just the whole experience. I think I'm ready for something new in my life. I feel like I've been doing the same kind of repetitive high school football for four years. I'm excited to get out of Charlotte and get up to South Bend.”
Learning the playbook is one of the major benefits Larsen sees in arriving early.
“I know that playbook is no joke in college,” he said. “Getting in the weight room with Coach (Fred) Hale, that'll be big and then just getting acclimated to classes and just the whole atmosphere with the school. Getting there in June, you get there and then football season's right around the corner, so I know it can be a lot. I'm just pumped to get there and get acclimated.”
