2025 WR Quincy Porter Talks Notre Dame & More
ORADELL, N.J. - Quincy Porter’s name has been on college recruiting boards since he was a freshman here at Bergen Catholic High School.
The 2025 New Jersey receiver is still only a junior, but the 6-foot-4, 200-pounder has gone from a name on recruiting boards to a serious priority for some of the top schools in the country.
Porter is being seriously chased by schools like Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Florida State and several others.
“Everything's going good,” Porter told Irish Sports Daily on Wednesday. “A little bit overwhelming, but it's fine. I'm good with it.”
Porter said he didn’t really worry about what types of college opportunities he’d have when he arrived at Bergen Catholic a couple years ago.
“Honestly, I just kept my head down and just kept working,” he said. “I didn't really think much about if I get this or I get that. I just kept working because no matter what, as long as I keep working, I'd see results.”
Porter credits head coach Vito Campanile and the entire Bergen Catholic coaching staff with helping him get to where he is now.
“They help me all around a lot,” said Porter. “I probably wouldn't be in the spot I am now without the coaches.”
Notre Dame remains in contact under new receivers coach Mike Brown, who visited Bergen Catholic on Monday.
“He was just telling me his history with receivers and everything and just to come back and see him coach,” said Porter, who has also kept in touch with head coach Marcus Freeman.
He visited South Bend back in April.
“I liked it a lot,” he said. “It had an old look, which was fine. Educationally, they're really good of course and football, they're really good as well.”
And he plans on returning in the coming months.
“Most likely for spring practice, but we haven't set anything,” he said. “I definitely want to see them coach and talk to the new receiver coach more.”
This weekend, he heads down to the Sunshine State, where he’ll visit Florida and Florida State. Stops at Texas and Oklahoma could be down the road.
The Buckeyes certainly have his attention.
“Obviously, they have a good track record with receivers going to the NFL, of course,” said Porter. “I like Coach (Brian) Hartline and Coach (Ryan) Day. I really do like Ohio State too.”
Michigan was actually at Bergen Catholic on Wednesday and the Wolverines acknowledged the possibility of Jim Harbaugh taking the Chargers job even before the news became official.
“They said offensively, it was not going to really change much, that they're still going to keep most of their coaches around, so it's not going to be a big change, which is good,” Porter said. “I still know those guys, so that'll be good.”
Porter expects to cut his list soon with a decision likely coming in the summer.
“As I see it, the three main things I'm interested in are education, a place that has a chance to win a national championship and a place that can help develop me to the next level.”
