BREAKING | 2025 LB Anthony Sacca Commits To Notre Dame
In spite of all the attention and hoopla that comes with being a top target if schools like Notre Dame, Penn State, Ohio State and Alabama for years, Anthony Sacca always remained grounded.
Sacca points to his father for keeping him grounded throughout.
“He's been keeping me in check since I started playing sports; always trying to keep me down to earth no matter what was going on,” Sacca says.
So, when Sacca told his father he was committing to Notre Dame, the St. Joseph’s Prep star wasn’t surprised by the reaction.
“I got a 'Good job,’ and a handshake,” Sacca laughs. “That's the most I'll get out of him, but I'll take it.”
And so will Notre Dame.
The Irish are thrilled to add the 6-foot-3, 220-pounder, who gives them 19 current commits in the 2025 recruiting class and a key piece at linebacker.
During various points during his recruitment, outsiders were certain Sacca would land at Happy Valley, Columbus or Tuscaloosa.
He seriously considered those schools, but Notre Dame was the constant.
“It was them and Ohio State for a while,” Sacca says. “They were the two at the top and then when Alabama came on late, I obviously had to consider that.
“I sat down with my coaches and I sat down with my dad and my mom kind of talked it over and we got to the conclusion that Notre Dame was the best spot for me.”
Sacca points to the bonds he’s built over the past couple years with Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman, linebackers coach Max Bullough, general manager Chad Bowden and defensive coordinator Al Golden, who played with Sacca’s father, Tony, at Penn State.
“Building those relationships and the comfortability level I had when I was out at Notre Dame,” Sacca says of what helped the Irish win in the end.
The opportunities off the field in South Bend played major roles as well.
“Obviously that plays a factor when you're considering a school like Notre Dame where you can get a unique education,” he says. “You get an opportunity to play on national television each week, but also get a good degree and play a high level of football.
Sacca is excited about joining the Irish’s 2025 recruiting class.
“I've known Deuce (Knight) for a while and we've talked a lot over the last week, and Owen Strebig from Wisconsin,” Sacca says. “I've been talking with a lot and just a bunch of those other guys, I've been connecting with over the last week.
“It's been fun. It's been nice getting to know them, building relationships with them as well.”
Sacca began his career at St. Joseph’s Prep, but has been transitioning to linebacker, where he’s likely to see most of his time in college.
“They call it a combo backer. It's kind of what I do now in my defense where I'm a little bit of everywhere on the field, whether it's lined up at the line of scrimmage on the tight end or I'm off the ball or I'm out in space. A little bit of everything.”
