It’s been obvious Jordan Clay‍ is interested in Notre Dame for a while. That was clear when the 2026 Texas receiver made a pair of unofficial visits to South Bend last year.

On St. Patrick’s Day, we found out how interested the Irish are in Clay as they extended him a scholarship offer as part of their Pot of Gold Day blitz.

“It means a lot,” Clay told Irish Sports Daily. “It's such a historical school. The school comes with a lot. It's a really great program. Coach (Marcus) Freeman has turned it around and I think that's definitely one of the biggest offers in my recruitment so far.”

The San Antonio native also has offers from schools like Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Tennessee and Arizona State among others. He camped in South Bend last summer and returned for a game in the fall.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder plans to be back again.

“I'll definitely be back up there on campus, take an official visit and all that,” he said. “I love the school, I love the coaching program up there.

“Coach Freeman, Coach (Mike) Brown, they've been showing me love since they got there and they're showing me as much as they can during this recruiting process. It definitely has an impact on me and why I'll be back up there.”

Clay has been getting to know Brown, who is in his first year as Irish receivers coach.

“He's great,” Clay said. “I've been talking to him once a week. He calls and checks on me, checks on the family, so that shows me that he really cares about his players and he is really trying to build a relationship more than just in football, get to know you as a person.”

Clay, who has family in the South Bend area, will be looking to learn even more about the Notre Dame program during his next visit.

“Really just see how the offense is going to look, see their other receivers, what I'd have to look forward to and look at my competition if I want to come in and to start as a freshman,” he said. “Also, just see the coaching staff together, see how they work together, see how they are when they're out there coaching.”

Clay will continue to visit plenty of schools in the coming months and has expressed interest in Texas A&M, Baylor, TCU, Oklahoma and Colorado State among others.

He won’t rush a final decision.

“I was thinking maybe late junior year, maybe start of my senior year, hopefully be committed going into my senior year.”
