2026 Port Arthur Memorial (Texas) linebacker Tank King‍ added an offer from Notre Dame on St. Patrick’s Day and quickly moved to set up an unofficial visit to South Bend.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder was on campus over the weekend and left with an extremely positive first impression of Notre Dame.

“It was amazing,” King told ISD. “The campus is nice and it’s a prestigious school. It also has really nice facilities.”

King might have been impressed with the current facilities, but he was also in the crowd as Notre Dame broke ground for its new 150,000-square-foot football facility.

“If I go there, I’ll experience the new facility,” said King. “It will be done in 2026.”

The Texas native also spent some quality time with the Notre Dame coaching staff. Marcus Freeman, Al Golden and Max Bullough all left good impressions, and King looks forward to continuing to build on the relationships he formed over the weekend.

“Coach Freeman is very excited about football,” King explained. “Coach Golden knows a lot about defense and he’s a great coach to learn from. Coach Max is the best linebacker teacher I know in college right now.”

Bullough went the extra mile as he broke down film, but also showed King his coaching style and personality during the visit.

“He actually went over my tape and broke it down,” said King. “He showed me what I could do on plays, but then he showed me their plays. He broke down the base defense because they run the same scheme as us.

“Honestly, he’s a very good man in my eyes. He might get intense sometimes, but I can handle it.”

King saw what he learned with Bullough up close and personal during Saturday’s Blue-Gold Game. The Irish defense is expected to be one of the best in the country in 2024 and King saw that.

“They really play fast and physical,” stated King. “I like the way they run the defense. The scheme was easy to pick up.”

As for a return to Notre Dame, King expects to be back in the fall, but for now, it’s full speed ahead for his high school team after taking additional visits to Baylor, SMU, Texas and Texas A&M this spring.

“Of course, I’ll be back at Notre Dame,” said King. “I don’t have any other visits this spring. We start spring ball right now, so I won’t be able to visit schools. I’ll be back for a game.”
