Jakob Weatherspoon’s last trip to Notre Dame was quite eventful as the 2026 Ohio athlete picked up an offer from the Irish after performing in one of their camp sessions last month.

“I felt really good about that offer,” the 6-foot, 175-pounder told Irish Sports Daily. “I've known Notre Dame since grade school in general. They’re always a solid school and their education there is amazing. I know their main thing is education.”

The Avon High School standout also has offers from schools like Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Illinois, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati among others.

He could play a number of positions in college, but the Irish offered him as a cornerback, which is fine with Weatherspoon.

“I fell in love with corner as time went on,” he said.

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman and the Irish staff were impressed with what they saw from Weatherspoon at the camp, especially his ability to run.

“He really liked my speed,” Weatherspoon said. “I think that's my main asset. I think that's what did it for him.”

Weatherspoon received the offer from Freeman and got a great first impression.

“Very solid man,” he said of Freeman. “He understands the situations like all players or recruits are put in that with stars and how all schools tell the same thing. It's just like he stood out a little differently for me.”

Weatherspoon is planning to return to South Bend for Thursday’s Grill And Chill.

“Just to build stronger bonds with the coaches to be honest and just spend time with the guys,” he said of his goal for this trip.

He doesn’t have any fall visits mapped out just yet, but is hoping to get to some big-time games.

“I want to make the big games like The Whiteout, the Michigan vs. OSU game,” he said. “I definitely want to see a lot.”

As for his final decision, Weatherspoon will be taking a close look at how the school plays and plays together.

“Definitely a winning team, a strong program,” he said of what will matter most. “How the players are with the coaches, how the coaches are with the players; that bond truly is what you need to be great.”
