2025 Notre Dame OL Commit Matty Augustine Excited For Senior Season

Matty Augustine‍ is excited for his senior year at Brunswick School (Conn.)

“It's going to be a really good season,” the 2025 Notre Dame offensive line commit says. “We brought in a new quarterback, Blake. We're really excited about him coming in.”

Augustine is referring to 2025 Clemson quarterback commit Blake Hebert, who transferred to Brunswick this offseason from Central Catholic High School in Massachusetts.

“Our offense is going to be really good,” Augustine continues. “Have a really good o-line, really good receivers and Blake back there.

“He came in in January and right off the bat we had a great connection. He was a natural leader, a person who wants to work really hard, a person wants to make everyone better. Just having him around the team, around the guys, it's really helped everyone improve a lot. We've had morning workouts all summer. He's staying with a family down here. For him to be able to lead the team as a kid that just came in six months ago, whatever it is, it's really amazing to see. Everyone has his trust. He has my trust. I can't wait to block for him.”

Brunswick’s defense is led by Augustine’s good friend and fellow 2025 Irish commit, safety Ethan Long.

“We have Ethan on our defense,” Augustine says. “We have a great linebacker. We have a great all around team. We have great team chemistry, so really excited to get it started in a couple weeks.”

And of course, the 6-foot-7, 290-pound Augustine anchors the offensive line and believes he’s set for his best season yet.

“I think the biggest thing for me has been my strength,” he says. “I've been in the weight room during the basketball season, but heavily since basketball season ended. A lot of my lifts have basically doubled at this point since last football season. So I'm just really excited to use that strength on the field and in pads against another opponent.”

Augustine anticipates facing opponents eager to prove themselves against the kid who is going to Notre Dame.

“I love that,” he says. “I love how everyone who goes against me is going to want to bring their best, going to want to try to beat me. It just makes me a better player. It makes me want to play harder, makes me want to kill my opponent even more.”

Augustine was last in South Bend for his official visit back in June.

“It was really fun,” he says. “It was a good time. I think the biggest part was just spending time with the o-line, something that you've really never done on a visit before. That was something really fun to do; being around, seeing the chemistry and the bond of the o-line. It was really fun.”

Even most of his games taking place on Saturday afternoons, Augustine expects to be able to get to at least two Irish games this fall.

“I have a game in September on a Friday night, so I think I'll be able to get out to the Miami-Ohio game,” he says.

“And when they come to play at Yankee Stadium, I'm definitely going to go watch.”
