2025 WR Antavious Richardson Breaks Down Notre Dame Commitment

There wasn’t one specific thing that led Antavious Richardson‍ to Notre Dame.

There were plenty of factors that led the 2025 Georgia athlete to flip his commitment from South Florida to the Irish over other opportunities at schools like Alabama and North Carolina.

“It was the atmosphere, the community, the school,” the Greenville High School star told Irish Sports Daily just after he announced the news on Tuesday.

“Everything in general just made me feel like it was home. That's what really made me commit there; seeing the bond of the players, the people, new people that I didn't even know greet me with kindness. It was just something special.”

The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder plays quarterback from Greenville and could play defensive back in college, but for now, the Irish see him as a receiver.

Richardson, who is nicknamed Scrap, took an official visit to South Bend a couple of weeks ago and was honored to let the Irish staff know of his decision on Tuesday.

“They were happy and excited,” he said of the Notre Dame coaches. “They were trying to get me up there. From their standpoint, it was great. They loved it. That was the best part.”

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman, receivers coach Mike Brown and general manager Chad Bowden played big roles in Richardson’s final decision.

“It was just a bond, getting to meet them, getting to talk to them, getting a chance to actually see where they come from,” Richardson said. “Most of them talk about their personal life, how they grew up and how they were in the same position I was.

“For the most part, that's what got me to flip, me being able to be myself and be comfortable around them. It was really great. All the vibes were great. There was really nothing bad about it.”

Richardson is happy to have the process behind him.

“It feels great,” he said. “It takes a lot off my back. I can finally sit back here and laugh and not get all these types of phone calls. It just feels great.”

He said Irish fans should expect him to bring some juice to the program.

“They should expect for me to bring energy, bring something special. That's what I think they should expect from me.
