2018 Greater Atlanta Christian School (Ga.) cornerback Trey Morrison has seen Notre Dame take an interest in some of his teammates and now the Irish have been in contact with the three-star prospect.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder is teammates with Chris and Miles Hinton, who visited South Bend a few weeks ago, but Morrison is also 7-on-7 teammates with Notre Dame commit Derrik Allen.
New defensive coordinator Mike Elko and Morrison recently had a conversation over Twitter.
“Coach Elko had followed me on Twitter, and I introduced myself in a message,” Morrison told Irish Sports Daily. “He said he wanted to get to know me over time.”
Allen has also been in Morrison’s ear about why he committed to Notre Dame.
“He really loves Notre Dame,” stated Morrison. “He has told me it’s a great academic school and how they play everyone in the country. Notre Dame isn’t in a conference and can play anyone.
“I like that they can play everyone. It brings out great competition.”
This past fall, Morrison registered 47 tackles and four interceptions for the Spartans. Morrison believes his success directly relates back to his style of play.
“I am a physical corner,” said Morrison. “I like to hit. My best part of my game is probably man-to-man right now.”
When it comes to his recruitment, Morrison holds over 20 offers from the likes of Boston College, Minnesota, Virginia, Wake Forest, West Virginia, and Western Kentucky.
Despite the offers, the Georgia native is making sure he takes his time with the process.
“I am taking it slow,” Morrison explained. “I want to weigh out all options. I have some schools I would like to have offers from because I have grown up watching them. I have always really liked Tennessee, Notre Dame, and Clemson.
“I have visited West Virginia, Virginia, Georgia State, Central Florida, Clemson, North Carolina, and there have been a few more schools too.”
On his visits, Morrison is getting the full scope of each program. He is looking for the balance between a good academic school and a strong football program, but also a coaching staff he can relate too.
“I really liked Wake Forest,” he said. “The academics at Wake Forest and Virginia were great. I loved West Virginia, and I really like Coach (Doug) Belk.
“I am going to try to get out to Minnesota soon because they just offered. They have a really good coach and seem to have excellent facilities as well. I’m going to try to get to some SEC schools, Notre Dame, ACC schools, and then I want to get out to UCLA, UNLV, and USC too.”
Academics are something Morrison places a high regard for, as he knows his mother wouldn’t be too happy if he didn’t value his degree.
“Education is going to be my priority,” stated Morrison. “I want to get a good education. My mom isn’t going to let me go to a not so strong academic school.
“After education, it will be about the coaching staff. I want to have a great connection with them and see myself playing for them for the next four years. I want to see myself fitting into the system and how the defense plays.”
Morrison is working hard to improve his game to impress a few of his dream offers and one from the Irish would be a big one.
“Notre Dame, North Carolina, Tennessee, UCLA, and USC,” said Morrison. “Notre Dame would jump high on my list if they offered.”
