2019 Walled Lake Western (Mich.) offensive lineman Spencer Brown made his way to South Bend the first week of April and will return for the Blue-Gold Game on Saturday.

“I can’t wait to get back to Notre Dame and see the game on Saturday,” the 6-foot-6, 265-pounder told Irish Sports Daily on Tuesday.

On his first trip to Notre Dame, Brown saw the nuts and bolts of the program and enjoyed what he saw.

“I found out Notre Dame does stuff different,” he explained. “It’s football, but they care about academics too. It’s not a three or four-year decision, but it’s a 40-year plan to set you up for life after football.

“They focus on making their players better people too.  Sometimes they don’t recruit players if they don’t have the grades. They expect more than just a football player at Notre Dame. The jerseys are sweet too.”

Brown got a chance to speak with defensive line coach Mike Elston on his first visit, and the Michigan native is doing exactly what Elston asked him to do: get back on campus.

“I spoke with Coach (Mike) Elston on my visit,” Brown stated. “He wants to see me more, and he liked my film. He said he could see me playing at Notre Dame. He wants me to come back for a camp so they can see me.”

After his trip to South Bend, Brown went to East Lansing to check out Michigan State. The Spartans have been recruiting Brown for a while, and he felt the differences between the programs.

“I was at Michigan State last weekend,” explained Brown. “It was different because they have offered me and I have been getting recruited by Michigan State, so they knew who I was when I walked in there.

“Notre Dame was just different. Everything is different. Notre Dame doesn’t have a conference, and they don’t play for a conference championship.”

Ball State, Miami (OH), Toledo, and Western Michigan have extended early offers to the Walled Lake Western star. Brown isn’t taking them for granted and hopes to continue building his offer list in the coming months.

“It’s a blessing to be able to have four offers, and I can go to school for free,” Brown said. “I know I have to work my butt off, but it makes me go harder. I have four offers, but I want to see where I can go. I know if I keep working hard, I can get more.”

While it’s still early, Brown is paying close attention to the coaches and campus environment.

“I am looking for a great relationship with the coaching staff,” he said. “I want a family atmosphere and great people around the campus. I want to go somewhere that has a great fanbase too. As much as players have to work, I feel like they deserve to have great fan support.”

After Notre Dame, Brown is planning to head to the South to check out some of the top programs in the ACC and SEC.

“I am going to try to get down to Clemson, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, and Tennessee at some point,” said Brown.
