2018 Tigard (Ore.) receiver Braden Lenzy will make his second trip to South Bend this weekend. The 6-foot, 175-pounder visited for the first time in February for Junior Day and committed shortly after to the Irish.

“I am very excited to get back to campus this weekend,” Lenzy told Irish Sports Daily. “All of the commits are excited to get back around each other this weekend. We don’t have many opportunities to hang out with each other, so it will be cool to be there and have some of our top recruits there. We are going to recruit them and hopefully get some commits.”

One of the targets for Lenzy will be fellow 2018 receiver Chase Cota, who is also from Oregon. The two have developed a closer relationship on the camp circuit despite living about eight hours apart.

“We’re friends, so it’d be great,” Lenzy said when asked what it’d mean if Cota ended up wearing a gold helmet. “It would be some comfort, although I am already comfortable. Knowing someone from my area is good, because I know I will be homesick at times. It’d be really cool having someone out there like Chase.”

2018 Notre Dame commit Markese Stepp couldn’t explain what Notre Dame was like to Lenzy before his visit for Junior Day. Lenzy immediately knew what Stepp was talking about when he stepped on campus, but he doesn’t know what kind of emotions he will feel this weekend.

“I am not really sure,” laughed the four-star prospect. “We’ll find out. I don’t know what the ticket sales are looking like, but I am sure it will be a pretty packed stadium for the Spring Game.”

The Notre Dame staff has remained in constant contact with Lenzy since his commitment, and it’s not just one coach.

“It’s been great,” explained Lenzy. “There has been a lot of communication from Coach (Del) Alexander, Coach (Brian) Polian, Coach (Chip) Long, and Coach (Brian) Kelly. “Coach Alexander is a really chill guy. He’s fun to talk with, but I know he’s serious about the game.”

Kelly has made sure his speedy receiver knows his commitment is valued and wants him ready to compete when he arrives in South Bend.

“He tells me to keep working and wants me to be the best I can for my high school team,” stated Lenzy. “He wants to make sure I am ready to compete so I can play as soon as I can.”

As for the rest of the spring, Lenzy has track goals to achieve and will get a chance to talk about his track future this weekend.

“I want to run under 48 seconds in the 400m, under a 10.8 in the 100m, and under 21.7 in the 200m,” said Lenzy. “I will be talking with the track coach this weekend.”
