2025 OL Commit Cam Herron Enjoys Notre Dame Return
After multiple trips to South Bend over the past year, Cam Herron’s return for Notre Dame’s game against Florida State earlier this month was his first as an Irish commit.
“Man, it was great,” the 2025 Indianapolis offensive lineman said. “I'm not going to lie, it was good.
“The feeling of being committed to a school and that's like your fan base now and it really feels like a family base. It's kind of more like you are part of them and it definitely feels great. Obviously the game was great. The game was great. They had a great game.”
Herron flipped his commitment from Iowa to Notre Dame following an official last month and was excited to get back on campus for the first time since.
“I would say that this game was very important for me because I got to meet almost every commit who was there,” the Warren Central High School standout said. “ It was a pretty packed game with players who are committed. I got to meet almost everybody. It was great catching up with them, trying to build a bond with them, talking to them.
“It was great. We really set it off. We were joking around, talking and stuff and really just setting it off. I feel like I had a great time. I feel like they did too. Really just talking to everybody, it was great.”
He also felt welcomed by the current offensive linemen, who he spoke with in the locker room after the win.
“They're really nice guys,” Herron said. “Second time being up there, they all knew me by my name, talking to me and it was cool. It was really cool. They were all just welcoming. One of them actually wanted me to come over to one of the o-line houses and just chill with them. It was nice just talking to them. It's almost like a home welcoming type feeling.”
In addition to spending time with his future teammates, Herron also got a glimpse at what the culture within the Notre Dame program is like this season.
“What I really took away from the game was at the end, when they were beating them by a good amount, they never let off,” Herron noticed. “It's almost like they learned from the NIU game to never let down on the team. Even if they're beating them, they were still going at it locked in.
“They learned from that game. Obviously they shouldn't have lost that game and they just learned from it. You always need a game where you might have lost, but really you won because it made you a better team. I would say that game they learned from that game and it really showed during the Florida State game.”
Herron wasn’t on campus for the home finale against Virginia this past week.
“I was kind of sad because I did not know that that was their last home game,” he said. “If I would've known that, I would've made it up to that game. We had just come off of a crushing defeat and I didn't end up going. I kind of wish I did actually.”
Herron is hoping the Irish land a home game for the College Football Playoff and said he will “definitely” be back if he can.
“If they have another home game, I'll probably bring me and maybe a couple other family members, a couple of other coaches. A lot of my support group are big fans of Notre Dame and I would love to go back up there.”
