2019 Michigan Teammates Check Out ND, Plan To Return
Spencer Brown and Sam Johnson III had been to Notre Dame before and the 2019 prospects from Walled Lake, Mich., are likely to be back again, especially after last weekend’s return for the Irish’s Blue-Gold Game.
“Everything went good,” said Brown, a 6-foot-6, 265-pound offensive lineman. “I talked to the coaches and went through a whole bunch of stuff.”
“It was good,” agreed Johnson, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound quarterback. “I liked the atmosphere there. It was good competition on the field.”
Brown, who has early offers from schools like Louisville, Minnesota, Iowa State and Indiana among others, was impressed with the grounds in South Bend.
“I liked campus,” he said. “It was sweet. I liked the fans and everything around the program.”
He also enjoyed the spring game.
“I loved the game, good feeling, good atmosphere,” Brown said. “I was impressed by the d-linemen and the defense.”
Johnson also enjoyed the game and was impressed with what he saw from Irish quarterback Brandon Wimbush.
“I think he’ll be good,” said Johnson, whose early offer sheet includes schools like Cincinnati, Syraucse, Indiana and Temple among many others.
“I think he’ll be OK during the season. He’ll definitely develop and get better.”
The Irish coaches told the teammates from Walled Lake Western High School they hope they return.
“They just said they would love to see me up there, want to keep seeing my face and building that relationship with Notre Dame by coming back,” Brown said.
“I’ll come back for a one-day camp and hopefully get an offer…That would mean a lot to me. I really like the school. It would just mean that I’m a great person too because they don’t offer just anybody.”
Johnson, who had contact with the Irish via social media prior to his recent visit, is also planning to get to South Bend for a camp this summer.
“They just want me to get up there to camp and get worked out by them,” he said.
What will he be able to show them in a camp setting?
“Honestly, anything they want to see,” Johnson said. “Whatever they want me to do, I’ll definitely be able to do it.”
Johnson has been told by other coaches that they like his decision making and his pocket presence.
