Before it's all said & done 2018 SG Luther Muhammad has chance to be an elite college defender. When he locks in, too tough and disciplined.
That is exciting if we can get him.
Luther Muhammad had been talking about visiting Notre Dame for months and the 2018 New Jersey guard finally got the chance on Thursday and he’s glad he did.
In fact, the 6-foot-4, 185-pounder from Jersey City is already thinking about a second trip.
“First, I met with the coaches where their practice facility is,” the Hudson Catholic High School standout said.
“Then, they showed me around. I met with some academic people. Then, I practiced with the guys, went up and down with the guys for about an hour and a half and then went out to eat.”
Muhammad was impressed with the campus in South Bend.
“It’s a very nice campus,” he said. “Coach thinks it’s small, but I think it’s a big campus to me.”
He also enjoyed the academic presentation.
“It was great,” said Muhammad. “The guy I met with was telling me how they give the basketball players a year to see what they like and then the next year, kind of gets on them and guides them in something they would want to do in the future.”
Getting a chance to play pickup with current members of the Irish was another highlight.
“It was great,” he said. “I gelled with them as soon as I stepped on the court. It also showed me a little bit of how college basketball is, so it was a great experience.”
Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey had plenty to tell Muhammad, who is also strongly considering schools like St. John’s, Seton Hall, Xavier and Butler among others.
“His message to me was that being that TJ Gibbs is already there, it would be a very nice backcourt in the future,” Muhammad explained. “He said he plays about eight guys and he wants me to come in and be that seventh or eighth guy off the bench or possibly in the top five.”
Notre Dame already had Muhammad’s attention, but that’s increased now.
“I like it more than what I used to like it, I would say that,” he said. “I’m really, really interested even more.”
This trip came together easy with Muhammad in the Midwest for a weekend tournament in Indianapolis, but he told ISD he’s strong considering another visit to South Bend before finishing his process.
