Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa has hit the recruiting trail for the first time as Notre Dame’s Director of Recruiting Advancement last week.

One of the former Irish defensive lineman’s first stops was to see a defensive line target in Massachusetts, 2026 prospect Marcus Almada‍.

“He came to the school just checking in on me, making sure everything was OK,” Almada said of Tagovailoa-Amosa. “He just wanted to meet me in person. Really most of it was talking about his experience at Notre Dame and asking me how prep school life has been going with me boarding and the adjustments made that get you ready for college. “

The Tabor Academy standout and Tagovailoa-Amosa exchanged stories about how they ended up where they were.

“Most of it was just kind of having simple conversations, talking with one another about life and really just getting to know each other,” Almada explained. “I was just telling him where I'm from, my background between my family and how I came to Tabor, where I started off, and how I came here with Coach (Jeff) Moore reaching out and how everything since then has been really enjoyable and everything's been great at school so far.

“He was just telling me that he came from Hawaii, he went to Notre Dame, played there, was undrafted to the NFL. He was talking to me about what the adjustments at college are, especially like a school with Notre Dame trying to balance everything out with football, but also academics. He was also explaining to me why he chose Notre Dame, and that was because of the orientation of faith related to Notre Dame and how he felt so connected with that. It was really cool to understand why he decided to choose Notre Dame.”

Notre Dame offered Almada back in March and he has now locked in an official visit to get to South Bend the weekend of June 13th. He took an official to UCLA this weekend and has one to Arizona State after that. Following the official to Notre Dame, he expects to take officials to Virginia and Maryland.

He took an official to Oklahoma State last weekend.

“It was great,” said Almada. “Being able to see the environment and atmosphere of Oklahoma State and learning everything about the program, it was a great experience to see everything and really take in the entire school to really determine whether or not it would be a great fit for me.”

He will be looking at football when it comes time to make a final decision, but not football alone.

“One thing that myself and my parents really take seriously is the level of education and academics I'm going to receive at the school,” he said. “I want to go to a school that has very high academics and I can graduate from with a really great degree. Also with the academics is playing at a high level of football. So while you have that great academics, you also have the football aspect of it where you're playing at a really good program.

“And then the third thing is seeing myself in that environment and determining whether or not I fit in that kind of overall atmosphere. Like I say, a home away from home, I really want to know that place would be a really good fit for me.”
