Treyvone Towns Jr.‍ made a strong impression as a freshman quarterback at powerhouse Oaks Christian (Calif.), quickly establishing himself as one of California’s top young signal-callers.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound standout completed 63 percent of his passes for 2,178 yards and 20 total touchdowns in his debut season as the starter and schools from across the country have taken notice.

And despite the attention, Towns is more focused on the work.

“The offseason has been treating me well,” Towns told ISD. “I’m focused on my mechanics, how the ball is coming out and I’m making sure to get close with my guys and the new guys coming for spring ball.”

Despite being an underclassman, Towns is already embracing a leadership role within the Oaks Christian program.

“It feels like my team all the way,” explained Towns. “I was already making changes during the game and commanding the offense, but I can feel it when I practice that it’s my team. My coaches have given me a little more say-so and control.”

As college coaches from coast to coast flock to Oaks Christian this spring, Towns remains grounded and focused, handling the attention with maturity.

“It’s a sense of excitement,” he said. “It really doesn’t bother me because I’m still focused on the season. It’s exciting and cool to be able to know my hard work is starting to pay off.”

Notre Dame quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli was at Oaks Christian earlier this week and left impressed with Towns.

“That was definitely a surreal moment having Notre Dame coming down and watching me,” Towns stated. “He let me know I’m a top priority in the class. It was huge.

“He let me know he loved how I commanded the offense and the velocity on my ball. He also said I have great leadership and I displayed that during the practice by telling my guys where to set up and what to do.”

The pride in his mental preparation has always been there. From a young age, Towns understood the importance of being prepared and how it could benefit him.

“My parents always instilled in me that I have to be a sharp young man and think on the fly, especially at quarterback,” said Towns. “You can’t just think or be like the other guys. You have to stand out. The best way I can stand out is through my mental and not physically.”

Entering the week, Towns held offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Kentucky, Ohio State, Oregon State, Penn State, Purdue, Texas Tech, Toledo, Virginia Tech and Washington. That will grow in the coming weeks and it only provides motivation for Towns.

“It’s big and I’ve been taking it in well,” Town explained. “It just reminds me I have to keep going and focus on the main task at hand, which is step by step. First is my season, then next season and all the way into the league.”

The Ohio State offer last month set a strong tone for where Towns could take his recruitment.

“That was definitely a shocker by how early they offered me,” stated Towns. “If you asked me years ago if Ohio State offered me as early as they did, I probably wouldn’t have believed you. That was definitely a huge moment.”

Towns plans to hit the national camp circuit this summer with several out-of-state visits on the horizon.

“I’ll hit Penn State in early June,” said Towns. “I’ll head to Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and then I’m going to fit in Notre Dame. I’m definitely getting to Notre Dame for camp.”
