All eyes were on 2028 Bergen Catholic (N.J.) defensive end Jackson Vaughn‍ entering Friday’s Irish Invasion camp and the 6-foot-3, 225-pounder didn’t disappoint.

Vaughn set the tone early and finished as arguably the most impressive player on a field loaded with talent.

Notre Dame’s staff wasted little time as they extended an offer shortly after the camp concluded.

“I was happy and blessed to be able to receive an offer,” stated Vaughn. “I feel like I earned it by going to camp and not just getting it from them coming up. I got the chance to work with the coaches, build relationships and I was overall happy.”

The performance didn’t surprise Vaughn. It’s what he expects every time he steps on the field.

“I feel I expect to go in and dominate,” Vaughn said. “That’s the mindset you have to have in order to be a top guy.”

The defensive line group was loaded with several players who already held Notre Dame offers, and Vaughn embraced the high level of competition throughout the day.

“Some of the defensive linemen who were there today, I’m cool with,” explained Vaughn. “It’s great to be with and among the best. That’s how you get better.”

In addition to camping at Notre Dame to earn the offer and Vaughn wanted to get a feel for Al Washington as a defensive line coach.

“That was great,” said Vaughn. “I got to see the way he coaches and how he runs his defensive line. I saw his emotions. He’s an excited and passionate coach.

“I feel like the whole staff is very professional. There are a lot of good, genuine people. I could definitely see myself playing here.”

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman also spent time with the New Jersey native.

“He’s very professional and genuine,” Vaughn said. “He cares about families and is just an overall good person.”

Although it was a short visit, Vaughn saw enough to know Notre Dame will be a serious contender in his recruitment.

“From a cultural standpoint, I feel I fit in well,” stated Vaughn. “I’m a Catholic school guy and that represents this school as well.”

Following camp, Vaughn was also able to check out the Grill and Chill event, which left an impression as it was a new experience.

“I didn’t do much at the grill off because I came toward the end,” said Vaughn. “I put a steak on the grill. That was pretty cool. I spoke to my best friend, Tahj, ‘This is crazy.’ I’ve never seen a cook-off. Usually it’s a pool part or something, so I thought that was pretty cool. It was unique because the stadium is right there and you could go on the field.”
