Notre Dame quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli made a spring stop at Oaks Christian to watch 2028 quarterback Treyvone Towns Jr. throw and it didn’t take long for Towns to return the favor.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder made the trip to South Bend last week for Irish Invasion, eager to showcase his skills and learn more about a school he’d heard plenty about.
“I feel like things went great,” Town stated. “They showed me around the school. I learned a lot about the school. I learned that not only Notre Dame, it's not just a football school. It's built off tradition and also academics. If your academics aren't right, you're not going to get in there.
“I learned that it's a family-based school and a religious school. It's a Catholic school, but they welcome everybody in.”
On the field, Towns competed in a deep quarterback group that included fellow standouts Malachi Zeigler (2027) and Neimann Lawrence (2028). He came away pleased with his performance.
“I feel like I performed really well,” explained Towns.“There's always some things that I can clean up on. Some mechanical things, some field work things, but I feel like overall I had a good day.”
Towns also got a strong feel for Guidugli’s coaching style and his personality during the visit.
“Love Coach Gino,” stated Towns. “He's a chill, laid-back coach. I also can tell that he'll get on you and let you know what you need to work on. I really love Coach Gino.”
While Guidugli didn’t extend any offers during camp, Towns, who already holds close to 20 offers, understands the process.
“He didn't really speak on that,” Towns explained. “I know that that's later in the process. I know it's not all about that. We're building the relationship right now, so I know that's later down the road.”
Perhaps one reason Towns knows he has to be patient is the fact that Notre Dame is coming off an appearance in the National Title game.
In fact, the California native admitted Notre Dame’s season got his attention.
“It played a huge role,” Towns said of Notre Dame’s run. “It let me know that Notre Dame football is at the top. They're up there. They're one of the best, if not the best, football schools, talent-wise.”
Towns will stay in the Midwest to hit a few schools before heading to the South.
“I think I'm heading down to Purdue in about two days,” said Towns. “Then I'm going to head back to Penn State and then hit some SEC schools.”
