2018 St. Benedict (Tenn.) receiver Cam Jones was expecting Notre Dame to stop by his school on Monday, but those plans changed at the last minute.

“I received some bad news on Monday,” stated the 6-foot-3, 205-pounder. “The flight got canceled, but Coach (Clark) Lea said he would be back next Monday, so he didn’t get a chance to stop by my school.”

The three-star prospect gave his commitment to Indiana last month, but that hasn’t stopped Notre Dame and other programs from recruiting him.

“I had been in contact with the Director of Football Recruiting, and I had been in touch with Coach Lea for a few days,” said Jones. “Coach Lea hasn’t told me much, but he told me about the football program and the great academics. My mom is big on academics. She will love to hear about Notre Dame.”

The Tennessee native was impressed with the academic and football balance at Indiana and a commitment shortly followed.

“I know a commitment to Indiana was early, but it felt good,” explained Jones. “I am aware anything can change right now too. My recruiting process is still open.

“Indiana has a great family atmosphere. I noticed the coaching staff has a lot of energy too.”

Jones is a player that has played just about every skill position on both sides of the ball, so it’s in the eye of the beholder on what side of the ball he ends up at in college. Receiver is the positon he prefers, but he’s still open to hearing what coaches feel is best.

“I am not sure what Indiana wants me to play,” laughed Jones. “I’ve play all over the field since I was six years old. I think they want me to play on the offensive side of the ball because I speak to the receiver coach the most.”

St. Benedict started spring football this week, and Jones will take a step back from recruiting to improve his team and his own game.

“My spring football began on Monday, so I am going to lay low with visiting schools and camps,” said Jones. “I am going to focus on my team right now. After spring ball gets over, I might think about visiting some schools.”
