After a pair of trips to South Bend this spring, Seneca Driver has stayed in touch with Notre Dame, specifically Irish assistant tight ends coach Harris Bivin.
“He's just saying hey and that they're about to go to fall camp and just saying good luck on the season,” the 2027 Kentucky tight end said.
“He's a great guy. He is really thoughtful.”
The message from Bivin, offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Mike Denbrock and head coach Marcus Freeman about why they think Notre Dame is the best place for Driver has been a consistent one since they offered him back in March.
“Because it's more of a family-like place where I could not just go for football, but go for intelligence after stuff the sport,” Driver said of their message.
The 6-foot-6, 225-pounder acknowledged that he does see what they’re talking about.
At this point, the Boyle County standout is looking into when his next trip to South Bend will be.
“I haven't made any plans just yet, but I'm sure I'll be there at a game this year,” he said.
“I want to see how they utilize their tight ends fully in-game, how many tight ends will go in a game at once and how their offense works.”
Driver doesn’t have any visits locked in yet, but expects to be hitting the road plenty this fall.
“I don't really know just yet,” he said. “I haven't really sat down with my family and decided where I want to go.”
Driver has an impressive offer sheet that also includes schools like Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, Penn State, Texas and Texas A&M among others.
He believes he brings versatility to the position.
“I would say I'm a tight end that can block good, but also be able to run pretty good routes, catch some balls and get some yards after catch,” he said.
It’s still a bit early, but he has a clear idea on how he’ll be evaluating each of his options.
“How the coaches are, the family atmosphere and how they would utilize me at tight end.”
