Aidan Rafferty is closing in on 20 scholarship offers.

“It’s obviously a blessing to have this many, but it’s great to have a really wide cast of schools to look at and that are taking interest in me and that I can kind of look at,” the 2018 Washington, D.C. offensive lineman said.

The Gonzaga College High School standout counts Maryland, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Boston College, Pitt, Louisville, Syracuse and North Carolina State among his offers along with Dartmouth, Harvard and Yale among others, but isn’t ready to name any leaders.

“I’d say right now the playing field is kind of even,” Rafferty said. “There’s no one school popping up.”

College coaches obviously like what they’ve seen from him on film.

“They usually tell me I have a quick first couple steps off the ball, which they really like, and the way I finish blocks and can bend,” he explained.

Notre Dame hasn’t offered the 6-foot-6, 280-pounder at this point, but Irish assistant Clark Lea was in the nation’s capital at the start of the Evaluation Period.

“He just stopped by to look at some players on our team,” Rafferty recalled. “He said he really liked my tape and would bring it back to Notre Dame for evaluation.

“I think they might come through again this spring, I don’t know though.”

Rafferty said Notre Dame is a school he “would definitely look at.”

“I know it’s a great academic school and obviously, a great football program,” he added. “I’d definitely like to look into some of the academic programs there.”

It’s a place he could see himself visiting after hitting the road recently.

“I visited a bunch of schools around the East Coast,” he said. “They were great. I loved being on campus, walking around and learning more about the schools on the visit was great.”

Rafferty doesn’t have a timeline for a decision at this point, but does know what he’s looking for in a college.

“Definitely a place that without football would be a great school to go to either way and a place that has great academics and a great football program.”
