Notre Dame Checks In On 2026 Irish TE Commit Preston Fryzel
With no game this past weekend, the Notre Dame coaches flocked across the country to check out several of their 2026 committed recruits.
Irish tight ends assistant Harris Bivin made his way to Ohio to check out tight end commit Preston Fryzel and his Central Catholic team’s matchup against Detroit Catholic Central on Friday night.
“We came up short,” Fryzel says. “We lost, but I played pretty good. I think I ended with 50 yards on three or four catches.”
The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder also kicks and punts and has his hands in various aspects of each game.
“It's fun,” he says. “I got to do a little more interior blocking last game and so I got to show that to Coach Bivin, which was pretty cool.”
Fryzel was touched to have Bivin make the trip to see him.
“It's special,” he says. “On his bye week, he could be sitting at home watching a lot of other recruits, but he decided to come out and watch me, so I really felt special.”
Fryzel and Bivin have become close.
“We always had a strong relationship,” says Fryzel. “It's really easy to talk to him. On my unofficial visit and official visit, we got pretty close.”
Bivin had a simple message for Fryzel.
“His message was just to keep working,” says Fryzel. “Obviously, my high school team's struggling a little bit and obviously Notre Dame had that tough loss, so we're kind of in the same boat, so he said, 'Keep pushing. Keep leading the guys and everything will be all right.'”
Fryzel plans to make multiple trips to South Bend this fall, starting with this weekend’s game against Texas A&M.
“I'm excited to get back with the commits,” he says. “I know there will be a couple '27 guys going to be there that hopefully I can talk to, try to get them to be Irish.
“Also, it'll be my first game day, so I'm excited to see what the atmosphere is like and hopefully we can get back in the winning column.”
Fryzel is looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere in South Bend for a game and will also be armed with reasons for those visiting 2027 prospects to make the same decision as him.
“First, I would just tell them it's different. It's different from anywhere you've ever been. There are really good people there. Honestly, a big part of the reason I chose Notre Dame is because of the people, just talking with all sorts of different people that are involved with Notre Dame is huge.”
