2018 NOLA CB Hoping To Camp At ND

Curry Benn has already earned a handful of offers and the 2018 Louisiana cornerback is looking for more.

The 6-foot, 170-pounder currently has offers from schools like Arizona, Colorado State, Southern Mississippi, Troy and Texas-San Antonio.

“It feels great because I know a lot of athletes don’t have that many,” the New Orleans native said. “It just feels great to be noticed.”

Benn has also had preliminary discussions with Notre Dame defensive backs coach Todd Lyght.

“Coach Lyght has been telling me how it’d come and check me out this spring and was telling me about the camp,” said Benn.

“That’s one of the top camps I’m attending.”

Benn has had his eyes on the Irish for years.

“Since I was in eighth grade, I picked out colleges I was into and Notre Dame was one of them because of the academics,” he said. “Every year, I did some research and for the past 15 years, somebody from Notre Dame has been drafted into the NFL and I like that.

“When Coach started talking to me and said he’d come check me out this spring, it just made me excited because it was a school I’d been looking into.”

Benn is confident in his ability to perform at the camp.

“I’ll show them a complete cornerback; tackling, covering, everything you’re looking for in a cornerback,” he said.

He’ll also be looking to see what Notre Dame has to offer.

“Facilities, the culture, how good the coaches are with their athletes,” said Benn.

He’s already made visits to Southern Miss and Louisiana-Lafayette and others.

“I have many things I’m looking at; distance from home, my major, playing time, the culture of the university and how close the coaches are with their players,” said Benn, who wants to major in Business.

Distance wouldn’t be much of an issue in Notre Dame’s case, according to Benn.

“I don’t really think so because like I said, I’ve been looking into Notre Dame since eighth grade, so I think my parents and family should love it.”
