Notre Dame running backs coach Autry Denson has made some quiet waves on the recruiting trail with his unique style of style of offering prospects. Denson has made sure to go the extra mile with the parents of his recruits and 2018 Blackman (Tenn.) running back Master Teague III, and his parents experienced it first-hand this week.

“Coach Denson wanted to call and talk to my parents to make sure they knew he was going to recruit me,” Teague told Irish Sports Daily. “He got my parents permission and told us what Notre Dame was all about. We had a great conversation.”

The time Denson spent talking to Teague’s parents was noticed and was taken as a positive by the family of the 5-foot-11, 200-pounder.

“It was the first time a coach had done that,” stated the four-star prospect. “I think they are fine with how other recruiters do it, but they didn’t mind Coach Denson asking for their permission. It was interesting and a different way of recruiting.”

Teague and Denson had been in contact previously, and Notre Dame had stopped by his high school twice during the Spring Evaluation Period.

“We’ve had conversations and been messaging,” explained Teague. “He sends me a quote every morning, so that’s good. I can tell he is very passionate and seems like a good man.

“It’s great he has so many experiences, and he can feel what I am going through right now. He can help me through it, and it’s an advantage. Notre Dame is a great school, so I am excited to get to know the staff.”

The Tennessee native holds an impressive offer list that includes Auburn, Duke, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt.

Teague is grateful for the opportunity to play at the next level and is very appreciative of his parents taking the time to make sure he gets to see the programs he has wanted to visit.

“Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee are coming at me pretty hard right now,” Teague stated. “It’s a blessing God has given me the talent I can use for his glory and I just glad to be in this situation. It’s a great position to be in, and I have great people around me to guide me.

“I have visited Auburn, Duke, Georgia, Ohio State, and Tennessee. In about a week, I am going to make some plans to see what I am going to do this summer. I am not sure what schools I am visiting, but my parents and I are going to make plans soon.”

As a junior, Teague ran for 2,031 yards and 24 touchdowns with his downhill style, and he prides himself on being able to be a North-South runner.

“I feel I am a back that isn’t going to waste anything,” said Teague. “I am a one-cut and go, guy. I have the power and speed to get outside. I’m getting better at pass blocking, and of course, everyone can work on getting better at blocking. I feel good catching the ball too.

“I might be like a Tony Dorsett, but Leonard Fournette is my running back.”
