2028 Bolles School (Fla.) defensive end Asher Ghioto‍ made his way to Notre Dame in June and left blown away with what he experienced on a multi-day visit.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder returned on Saturday with his teammates, 2028 running back Xander Edwards and 2028 quarterback Luke Toland.

And it didn’t disappoint.

“It was awesome,” Ghioto told ISD. “I loved every second and being up there again with Marc Edwards was pretty cool. The history and the atmosphere were awesome.

“I got to see student life and saw what it's like on a regular day there and not just during the summer. There's actual people on campus and that was awesome. And really getting to experience all the fans and getting to meet some of them.”

The weather definitely made the trip a little tougher as it rained for large stretches on Saturday, but it might have made the atmosphere inside Notre Dame Stadium a little more special.

“It still ended up being a great game,” Ghioto said. “It was awesome to watch and the atmosphere was incomparable to any other school.”

The five-star prospect was able to see Al Washington’s defensive line go to work in person for the first time. Ghioto was paying close attention to everything Notre Dame's defensive line was doing, and he left believing he fit into the scheme.

“The D-line was getting pressure and Coach Al, he's the guy,” stated Ghioto. “He knows what he's doing and he's awesome. I talk to him quite a bit and I do see myself fitting in there really well.”

Washington also made plenty of time to speak with Ghioto, which impressed the Florida native.

“We talked it up for a while,” explained Ghioto. “It was pretty awesome. But really just talking about film, breaking it down and just talking to him as a person and I was with Marcus Fakatou‍ and we were talking the whole time. Coach came over and talked to us. It was pretty awesome. He's always a great guy to talk to and he's a really just like personable guy. He's awesome and I really just love talking to him.”

Ghioto greatly appreciated the conversations with Washington even more because he wasn’t pushed to commit or put in a recruiting question gauntlet.

Instead, Washington focused on building their relationship that really took off during the summer.

“I personally like that because I don’t want to always be like, ‘OK, where are you at? He’s talking to me as a person and that's how they're trying to get me to commit. They're not trying to give me a whole pitch and they're not trying to do a lot like that.

“I like whenever they're just trying to be like a guy that I could come to and I could talk to because I mean, at the end of the day, when I go to college, it's going to be like my dad away from home. Really getting to know them and really getting to talk to them, not just about football and not always about committing everywhere, I love that.”

Ghioto and Fakatou have been close for some time, and Saturday gave them a chance to reconnect and even dream a little about the future.

“He’s one of my great friends,” stated Ghioto. “It was great talking with him and seeing where we’re at with Notre Dame. We have the opportunity to play together someday and that would be awesome with him on one side and me on the other. It was cool talking about that.”

Up next, Ghioto will have a busy end of the college football season as he’s planning to visit Florida, Indiana and Ohio State.

And yes, Ghioto is already looking forward to getting back to Notre Dame.

“I'll definitely be up there again.”
