2028 Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) quarterback Treyvone Towns Jr.‍ had high expectations when he arrived at Notre Dame over the weekend.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder made his first trip to campus for Irish Invasion in June and was blown away. That experience led Towns to make it a priority to return to Notre Dame this fall.

“It was crazy,” Towns told ISD. “It was really exciting to be able to get another opportunity to head back down to Notre Dame.  I loved my time I spent down there during the summer. So being able to get back down there was just like, it was huge. I was just full of excitement down there and they exceeded my expectations for the second time.”

Towns had an easy highlight of the weekend and it was one of the first things he experienced when he arrived.

“The first huge highlight was meeting Joe Montana,” explained Towns. “He is great. That was insane. I don't think too many schools could just bring alumni who are just big like that. Meeting a guy like Joe Montana was just crazy because in my eyes, he's like the best quarterback besides Tom Brady, like right behind him.

“Then watching the actual game, like seeing Notre Dame fight for the whole night and never giving up even when things got rough. Football is always an imperfect game, so it's always going to be back and forth. I was just glad to see them get the dub.”

The scene in the Notre Dame locker room following the 34-24 win over USC was another moment Towns won’t soon forget.

“Being in the locker room with the team after the win, it was a huge highlight right there,” Town stated. “It was just huge being able to see the excitement on their faces, like all the players cheering, taking pictures with the rivalry trophy. It was just crazy.”

It was a moment where Towns could sense the excitement of Notre Dame’s program enjoying a win over its rival. The moment also shed light into the brotherhood and culture Marcus Freeman has created within his program.

“I definitely saw how close they were,” said Towns. “It just showed all the preparation that they had in that game leading up to it. Like, you could just see a sign of relief after they won in the locker room.”

Notre Dame’s run game looked like a well-oiled machine on Saturday as Jeremiyah Love had a career night. The passing game wasn’t as prolific against USC, but Towns saw what Mike Denbrock was trying to do.

“I thought that CJ (Carr) operated and moved very well in the offense that night. In some other games, he's been more of a takeover type of dude with Jeremiyah and the other running back, No 24. But you could tell that with the rain, they had to get the run game going and stuff like that.

“I thought he managed the game very, very well and just took over when his opportunity came. He definitely prepared for those opportunities, like the late touchdown that he had on the slant.”

After the game, Towns caught up with Notre Dame quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli. The two are familiar with each other from Irish Invasion and the trip Guidulgi made to California to see Towns throw last spring.

“We just spoke on the game, talked about what we saw out there and some things we liked,” Town recalled. “ He said during this bye week that he would evaluate the 28s, watch some film on us and stuff like that.”

Up next, Towns' visit schedule will be determined by how his team does in the CIF Playoffs.

“I have Tennessee planned for November 1st vs. Oklahoma,” Town said. “I have Nebraska set up for somewhere in November and Indiana set up too, based on my schedule for CIF playoffs.”

Towns also had the unique opportunity to watch the hometown Trojans in a place not named the LA Memorial Coliseum.

“Honestly, being at Notre Dame and watching a school that's in my backyard, it was very shocking. It was shocking to my pops, too, because he actually went to USC. It was just weird for him to watch them just get beat up on.

“It did feel a little weird at first, but Notre Dame, they're the real deal. We got used to it. It was definitely crazy seeing USC in person, and in another state.”
