Colton Ott made his way to South Bend for Notre Dame’s game against USC recently and the 2028 Colorado offensive lineman left impressed.
“It was awesome,” the 6-foot-4, 310-pounder said afterward. “I had a great time. It was a really fun experience.
“We started out in the practice facility and we ate there. We got to meet with our position coaches for a little while and talk to them.”
The 6-foot-4, 310-pounder enjoyed his talk with Irish offensive line coach Joe Rudolph.
“He said he loved what I've been doing and was excited to continue to talk to me and continue the recruiting process,” Ott said of Rudolph. “He seems like a really great guy. He seems like he's pretty down to earth.
“I know he doesn't like to take guys out of the Transfer Portal too much, which I like. He likes to develop his own players, which is definitely a plus for me.”
The Fairview High School standout, who has early offers from Colorado and Toledo, was able to meet several future Irish players.
“There were a bunch of commits there, so we got to talk to them for a while,” he said. “That was cool to seeing them and talking about how they chose Notre Dame.
“We were supposed to see the Player Walk, but it got canceled due to rain obviously. But I got to talk to Joe Montana, which was super cool and take some pictures with him. I talked to him about the recruiting process and why he chose Notre Dame and all that. That was a really great experience.”
After watching Notre Dame’s 34-24 win over USC, Ott and the other recruits had the chance to go into the Irish locker room and be with the coaches and players as they celebrated the victory.
“All of the players were super nice,” said Ott. “They took time to talk to the recruits and interact with them, instead of just ignoring them. The commits were super nice. Everybody was great guys. They're all great guys. I feel like Notre Dame really attracts good guys.”
Ott has visits to Arizona State, Kansas and Utah coming up, but also talked with Notre Dame about returning to South Bend over the offseason.
“Joe Rudolph mentioned coming out for a practice or something during the summer or spring, which would be fun. And I'll probably come back to the camp during the spring again, just do that again. And just stay in contact with the coaching staff and see how it goes.”
