2027 Notre Dame TE Target Grant Haviland Taking Patient Approach
Grant Haviland continues to let the recruiting process unfold deliberately as attention shifts to the 2027 class, a pace that fits where he is at the moment.
“It’s going good,” the 2027 Georgia tight end told Irish Sports Daily.
“I had some good game-day visits. I’m still staying in contact with a lot of schools right now and just staying patient with the process.”
The Milton High School standout has remained in regular contact with Notre Dame, particularly with assistant tight ends coach Harris Bivin and offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Mike Denbrock.
“I probably communicate mostly with Bivin,” the Alpharetta, Ga., native said.
Those conversations have centered on steady check-ins.
“Pretty much weekly updates on how their week went, how their game went,” Haviland said. “Then I’d give him updates with how my game went. We kind of just conversate.”
Haviland visited South Bend for a camp in the summer but wasn’t able to return for a game during the Fall.
That’s something the 6-foot-4, 215-pounder would like to do next year.
“Definitely,” Haviland said. “I would love to see the game environment; see how they utilize the tight ends in person; see the whole environment and attitude that the players have.”
A return visit would also allow him to further strengthen relationships within the program.
“Just continue to build the relationship with Denbrock, Bivin, Coach (Marcus) Freeman, all of them,” he said. “I think that’d be great.”
Notre Dame’s broader appeal has kept the Irish in the mix as Haviland evaluates his many options.
“They have a great culture,” he said. “They’ve historically been a great football program. I really like how faith-based their program is and then obviously they’ve had a long history of producing tight ends and getting them to the NFL.”
Haviland’s offer sheet includes schools like Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Miami, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas, Vanderbilt and several others.
Looking ahead, there are several programs he hopes to visit.
“I think I’ll get back to Ohio State, Georgia, Texas, LSU, Tennessee, Clemson,” he said.
As for a decision timeline, Haviland made it clear he’s not rushing anything.
“Whenever I am for certain that this is the place I want to be, the people I love, who I want to play for, I think then that’ll be the time. I’m not rushing it.”
