Judah Lancaster’s move from IMG Academy to Brentwood Academy has coincided with increased contact from Notre Dame.
The 2027 Tennessee tight end recently met with Harris Bivin as the Notre Dame assistant tight ends coach stopped at Brentwood Academy. Bivin offered Lancaster some insight into the Irish’s recruiting approach.
“He was really just telling me how they recruit and stuff like that and how they look at the recruiting process,” Lancaster said. “They don’t just really hand out offers to anybody, so you had to be a real special player to really receive one from Notre Dame.”
The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder currently holds offers from schools like Auburn, Florida, Maryland, Missouri, NC State and Arizona among others.
The time Lancaster spent with Bivin certainly left a positive impression.
“It was really good, actually,” Lancaster said. “It was real nice. He came by the school and just talked with me and watched us a little bit.”
Lancaster expects to remain in contact with Bivin and the Irish moving forward.
“He just told me he was going to get back to the offensive staff and then they were going to reevaluate my film and everything,” Lancaster said. “He really liked me, so he was just going to get back to the staff and let me know.”
An offer from Notre Dame would carry significance for Lancaster given the program’s standards, history at tight end and his own long-held feelings about the University.
“It would mean a lot actually,” Lancaster said. “Notre Dame was one of my top schools in my mind that I’ve always wanted to have an offer from. Just having an offer from them would really mean something to me, to be honest because of the high standard that they hold their players to and obviously how they run everything.
“I like it there and they do a lot of good things with the tight end for sure.”
If an offer were to come, Lancaster said he’d definitely take a visit to South Bend.
In the meantime, he’s planning trips to several other programs.
“I would for sure go back to Florida, Missouri, back up to Arizona, and then Auburn, Maryland, NC State, and Notre Dame,” he said.
Lancaster plans to narrow his list before his senior season. When the time comes to decide, feel and fit will be among the major factors.
“It’s just really how they treat me. Seeing how they value me and how everybody feels about me. It’s really just based off of feel for me and then how they’re going to utilize me at the next level and playing time early,” he said.
And he’s putting some of the onus on himself to figure that all out.
“Just asking good questions to get good answers.”
