2027 Notre Dame offensive line commit James Halter‍ is set to return to South Bend twice in the coming months.

Halter, who committed to the Irish last October, will be back on campus for Junior Day on March 21 and has also locked in his official visit for June 19 alongside some fellow commits.

The Pennsylvania native’s spring return will center largely on strengthening relationships within the class.

“There are a lot of commits going,” Halter said. “So it's going to be a good opportunity to get to meet them. We're committed, so we can get to fully know each other more.”

The 6-foot-5, 270-pounder emphasized the importance of building chemistry early.

“They're my teammates,” he said. “I don't know them well enough yet that we have a strong connection, so I really want to get that connection going as soon as possible so once we get there, it'll be a lot easier.”

The Central Catholic standout is also eager to get another look at the academic structure and overall operation from a different perspective.

“There's a lot of emphasis on academics and just how they run it,” he said. “So just seeing it from a commit standpoint, I think it would be really helpful.”

Halter is particularly looking forward to watching offensive line coach Joe Rudolph run practice.

“Just seeing it again now that I know him better and I spent time with him,” Halter said. “I've watched his team play. I think watching practice from this point will be really beneficial, just learning how they do it.”

Recruiting will also be part of the weekend. Halter plans to connect with uncommitted prospects in attendance, including Illinois offensive lineman Cameron Wagner, whom he knows from camps around the country.

“We met just doing the whole camp circuit,” he said. “We were on all our visits together, so I know him pretty well.”

Halter does not intend to pressure anyone.

“It's got to be their own decision, especially with Notre Dame and the real academics,” he said. “I'm just going to show them that they're welcome and just say why I like it and see if it'll connect with them.”

But he also understands the importance of building a strong offensive line class.

“Five is one,” he said. “You've got to have the best guys there and we all have to know each other. You need that connection. That's why it's so hard to play offensive line.”

Halter, who made the switch to full-time offensive lineman just last season, has continued working on his development this offseason, focusing on speed and power as he prepares for spring workouts at Central Catholic.

“They've been progressively ramping up. I've just been lifting with my trainer, focusing a lot on speed and power.”
