Brian Polian has made his presence felt in California over the Spring Evaluation Period and made a big impression on 2019 Servite tight end Ethan Rae on Tuesday. The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder got some good news after the school day ended.
“Right after school, I went into the coach’s office, and Coach Polian had been there,” Rae told Irish Sports Daily. “He had talked to my coach, and I had received an offer from Notre Dame.”
Notre Dame is no stranger to recruiting Servite and Rae is well-aware of the success the Irish have had with a former Friar.
“I’m not super familiar with Notre Dame, but I know how they have used their tight ends, especially with Troy Niklas,” said Rae. “He came out of Servite, and he did well at Notre Dame.”
Rae hasn’t had the chance to speak to Niklas over the years, but the fact the former Servite star is in the NFL had the four-star prospect fired up.
“I was very excited about the offer,” stated Rae. “With Notre Dame being a tight end school and producing tight ends, it was a big offer for me.”
The California native holds offers from the likes of Arizona State, Colorado, Georgia, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and UCLA. With the big offers, Rae got out to see a few schools already but is also in the early stages of seeing some out of state programs this summer.
“I have visited Cal, Fresno State, and Stanford,” explained Rae. “I have only seen the Northern California schools so far.
“I am doing a camp at USC this summer. In terms of out of California, I just started talking to my parents about visits. We are starting to plan trips to Nebraska and Texas A&M, but those aren’t 100 percent for sure yet.”
It wasn’t a shock that Rae enjoyed his trips to Cal and Stanford as both are somewhat similar to the Servite program.
“Stanford is a tight end school, and I liked them a lot,” Rae said. “The academics are good at Stanford too. Cal, I liked the visit because I sat down with the head coach and coaching staff. They told me how they would use me in the offense.”
Rae doesn’t know if he is looking for a program similar to Servite just yet, but he knows the coaching staff and academics will play a major role in his recruitment.
“I want to have a good relationship with the coaches,” said Rae. “I want him to not only want to know what’s going on in my life but hear about his life too. Academics are important for me as well.”
