2027 OL Commit James Halter Focused On Future With Notre Dame
James Halter’s latest visit to Notre Dame was as much about the future as it was the present.
The 2027 Irish offensive line commit spent time with fellow commits and top targets during last month’s Junior Day while continuing to build relationships within the program. The experience helped strengthen both his connection to the class and the team.
“It was great,” Halter told Irish Sports Daily. “It was a good time seeing everyone out there. It was pretty cool.”
Halter spent two days on campus, arriving Friday to watch practice before returning Saturday for another practice and Junior Day activities.
“I got to spend a lot of time with the other commits,” Halter said. “I got to meet some of the players, specifically the offensive linemen, and had a lot of meetings. Just learning more about the culture of the team and how they run their stuff and what they expect in the future.”
The Central Catholic High School standout came away with a clearer picture of what defines Notre Dame’s program.
“It’s a very team-based culture,” he said. “They’re all really tight and they’re just working hard every single day getting ready for the season.”
Halter also had an opportunity to watch offensive line coach Joe Rudolph in action, building on a relationship that began in earnest during a camp visit last year.
“It was pretty interesting,” Halter said. “Seeing how he coaches, what he’s told me before and then being able to see him in person actually coaching up those guys. That was pretty cool.”
The 6-foot-5, 270-pounder also continued to build relationships within Notre Dame’s 2027 class, including time with fellow commit Richie Flanigan, who is now expected to play along the offensive line after initially being recruited as a defensive lineman.
Halter also spent time with 2027 offensive line target Cameron Wagner, continuing a relationship that has developed over multiple recruiting visits together.
“It was a good time,” Halter said. “I got to know him better. I talked to him on other trips before, but this time we were able to stand together and watch practice, so I just got to know him better.”
In addition to Rudolph, Halter also connected with head coach Marcus Freeman, who reinforced the expectations for his development moving forward.
“They just told me to stay present in this upcoming season,” Halter said. “Keep getting better each day, stay positive about everything and just keep going.”
The Pittsburgh native is expected back on campus later this summer.
“It’ll be the official visit at the end of June.”
