Make no mistake, the Irish are firmly in the race for 2027 Chicago defensive lineman David Folorunsho, especially after this weekend's return to South Bend.

Another visit to Notre Dame gave David Folorunsho‍ more than just familiarity, it gave him a clearer picture of his potential role.

The 2027 Illinois defensive lineman returned to South Bend this weekend and came away with a better understanding of how he would be used within the Irish defense.

“It went great,” he said. “I really got a chance to meet all of the coaches and learn how I would be used.”

That clarity centered around the 6-foot-4, 280-pounder’s positional fit.

“They’d use me at three-tech and that big end position,” he said. “That sits very well with me because those are the positions I want to play.”

The Chicago native has made multiple trips to campus, but this visit added another layer by connecting scheme fit with the relationships he has continued to build.

Defensive line coach Charlie Partridge played a key role in that.

“You can tell Coach Partridge is a technician,” he said. “He’s big into development and really making the players the best player they can be.”

That message extends beyond meetings.

“He’s a great person,” he said. “You can tell the guys in the room really like him.”

Head coach Marcus Freeman delivered a similar impression.

“Coach Freeman is the same thing,” he said. “He made me feel like a priority when I got there. We had a great conversation.”

That sense of priority has been consistent throughout the process and remains a central factor as Folorunsho works toward a decision.

He has already locked in a return trip.

“I have the official visit on June 12th,” he said.

With no additional unofficial visits planned, the focus will now shift toward official visits with trips also set to Georgia and Miami.

“They’re definitely at the top of my list,” he said of the Irish.

But when pressed on what that means, Folorunsho made it clear he isn’t quite ready to name favorites within favorities.

“I’m not really ranking them right now,” he said.

Other programs under serious consideration include Georgia, Miami, Texas Tech and Michigan.
