Notre Dame landed its biggest remaining recruiting priority on Thursday.
The Irish secured a commitment from 2027 Chicago defensive tackle Brayden Parks, adding one of the nation’s top defensive linemen to an already loaded recruiting class.
Parks gives Notre Dame 23 commitments in the 2027 class and becomes the sixth defensive line pledge, joining David Folorunsho, Aidan O'Neil, Segun Alexander, Abraham Sesay and Jackson Vaughn. He's also the second true defensive tackle in the class alongside Alexander and the ninth defensive commitment overall.
The 6-foot-2, 305-pound Brother Rice standout gives the Irish another physical presence on the interior of the defensive line and caps what has become one of the nation's strongest defensive line hauls in the 2027 cycle.
Parks chose the Irish over Oregon after a back-and-forth process that lasted longer than many expected. He also had offers from schools like Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, Florida, Tennessee, Miami and Washington among several others.
In the end, the overall fit at Notre Dame proved to be decisive for one of the very best prospects in the Midwest.
"They're good people,” Parks said of the Irish. “Great people. They want the best for each other. You could tell that just by the way they interact with each other and speak to one another. They all support each other and want the best for them."
Landing Parks wasn't always a certainty, though.
Following his official visit to South Bend in June, Notre Dame appeared to seize momentum after showing Parks exactly what he hoped to evaluate: the culture inside the program, the relationships within the program and how he fit within the Irish locker room.
Parks had been to Notre Dame several times before taking his official visit, so he didn't need another tour of campus. Instead, he wanted to spend as much time as possible around current players, fellow recruits and the coaching staff.
"It was great," Parks told Irish Sports Daily following the visit. "It was great being back there, spending time with the staff. It was a great overall trip.
One player he spent considerable time with was Folorunsho, a fellow Chicago defensive lineman, who committed to the Irish earlier this spring. Parks also interacted with current players like Tionne Gray, Armel Mukam and Davion Dixon.
That environment mirrored exactly what Parks had prioritized throughout his recruitment.
Notre Dame's coaching staff also made it clear they believed he was a natural fit in South Bend.
"They said I fit right now just based on how I've been raised and who I am today," Parks explained.
Parks acknowledged seeing the fit himself as well and admitted he always found himself using Notre Dame as the measuring stick when evaluating other programs.
But even after the official visit and whispers behind the scenes that his recruitment was all but done, the process continued.
Parks followed through with an official visit to Oregon the following weekend and the ensuing weeks had many around the recruitment believing it was a true coin flip between the Irish and the Ducks.
Ultimately, Parks decided Notre Dame was the right fit.
His decision marks another milestone for the Irish. Every uncommitted prospect on Irish Sports Daily's current 2027 Target List has now announced a college decision. While the board could expand in the coming months, the Irish have landed commitments from every remaining target on the current list.
