It wouldn’t be a Notre Dame recruiting class if they didn’t land an elite tight end and they’ve done it again with the addition of Titus Hawk‍. A three-sport athlete (basketball and baseball) who is also a big time prospect on the diamond, he’s a former quarterback who switched to tight end as a sophomore and is just scratching the surface with what he can do on the football field.

Height: 6’7”

Weight: 215

Projected Position: Tight end

ISD Grade: 90 (4-star)

National Average Grade: 89.5 (4-star)

What he does best:

Hawk’s athleticism pops when watching him. He can really run and is an above the rim athlete.

He’s a true vertical threat at the position with good ball skills.

He’s a serious threat after the catch. He breaks tackles and has real juice when he builds up speed.

Though his stature might not indicate it, he has edge as a blocker. He can be an asset as a move tight end and also blocks well in space.

What he needs to improve:

He’ll need to spend a lot of time in the weight room and right now he is basically a big receiver. That physical development is going to be critical as he’ll also have to learn how to play in-line at times as well.

With him having to spit time between three sports and only having two years playing tight end, he’ll have a chance to refine his skills as a blocker and a receiver once he puts more focus on football.

What’s his ceiling?

Hawk is an exciting athlete and his success in multiple sports is an important marker when projecting tight ends to have success in college football. That and the way he gets after it as a run blocker remind me a lot of former ND tight end Eli Raridon.

Raridon was also essentially a big receiver in high school who needed to add weight and adjust to the position. I did get to see Hawk in person at Irish Invasion last summer and my main concern about him is whether or not he has the frame to add the necessary weight to be more than a jumbo receiver. That obviously wasn’t an issue for Raridon.

If it isn’t for Hawk as well then I think he has the potential to develop into an impact player at the position.
